Hitting Level 30 Doesn't Mean You Should Immediately Hop Into Ranked.

Title says it all, but if you're new to League of Legends and play the game for fun and are not yet as experienced as some other players, stick with normal games. Those who grind ranked are mostly playing to reach new ranks and climb. You will likely get paired against enemies who have loads more experience than you do, or against people who just been stuck in said elo for a long time and are still trying to get out. Just think about it before you head into ranked.

  • What if I match against people who are better than me and know more?
  • Should I be playing ranked with not much experience?
  • What if my main champion is banned?

You'll be much much more beneficial to the teams you're on in the future if you spend your time learning more in normal games. Heading into a ranked game blind not knowing much about the game puts you and your team at a massive disadvantage. You do bad in your lane, you're whole team will pay for it and summoners rift just turns into one huge blood bath for your team. If for some reason you really want to head into ranked right after you hit 30, Which I do not recommend, then try not to play too big of a role that is key to your team. Going mid or jungle without really being seasoned in those departments will put your team at again, a disadvantage. You can cost your team the whole game whether that be feeding the enemy laner or not targeting objectives.

Don't be that guy. Play some normal games, get really good, expand your champion pool, practice last hitting, just become an all around monster and gain all types of knowledge you can. Then once you feel like you're skilled. ready, and feel like you've learned a hefty amount of knowledge of the MOBA known as League of Legends, then queue up for ranked, and make your team proud.

TL;DR: Don't play ranked if you're a fresh 30, get better at the game, then go ahead.

If MMR does it's job, you'll get placed with people you win/lose a fair amount of games as. If you go in without much experience, you'll get matched with people who have an equal lack of experience, or with people who are playing in such a bad way that their experience with the game is nullified. It wouldn't be "What if I match against people with more experience than me?" it would be "what would I gain from being matched with players who haven't improved since they started?"

I made that mistake. I did not have a single rune, or the slightest bit of game knowledge. I dug a tremendous hole for myself as I fed on jax literally every game lol. Demoted to b5 and ended season 6 at b4 0 lp. Now this season, I have discovered champs and roles that I am actually good at. Those being support, top, and adc. My boys Taric, Naut, Nasus, and Yorick have gotten me to b1. I'm almost to silver!

I started League near the middle of S5. The moment I was able to do ranked, I did so. Won 8/10 placement games (and didn't do badly in any of them), and placed S1. Got into gold promos several times, but never actually won my promos. Ended upper silver. Just because some people are bad at games doesn't mean everyone is.

When you've been playing video games since you were 5, and when you have an IQ above double digits (120 is average globally, but America is well below the global average)... it's not that hard.

Players unlock rank at lvl 30. If they are new and therefore "bad" they will be placed low. So why worry about it?

All roles are essential, so just don't play ranked as a fresh 30. I feel like there should be a threshold of normal games you have to play before you can even think about playing ranked. This is where linking your smurf accounts to your main account would also come in handy - you can skip the normal game threshold if your account is linked.

I think I may have inadvertently solved the smurf problem...
