Ranked Restrictions
RIOT, I have an idea.
So, I'm an engineer who thinks about complex feedback systems all day, and I realized there's a good way to transition that knowledge to the problem of trolls/feeders/ragers in ranked.
The biggest problem I'd imagine that Riot has is identifying these players. They need a way to find a systemic problem, a style of play or habit that is fundamentally causing other players grief.
The metric I propose is three-fold:
- damage dealt
- gold earned, and
- abilities cast.
Even low ELO players will have increasing trends in these three metrics. No player who is actively trying to contribute to the game isn't doing some amount of damage, wither to minions, jungle camps or champions, earning gold beyond the standard over time increase, or casting their abilities.
I propose that players who fail to meet any of these criteria for a length of time in a game, across several games, are toxic to the ranked community. Players who aren't dealing damage, earning gold, or casting abilities are either feeding, afk, running aimlessly around, or otherwise trolling.
I understand that trolls are part of League, but if you make these thresholds high enough: 20% of the game length with no increase in damage dealt, 10 games in 6 months with these behaviors, the players should be at least restricted from playing Ranked. I've been playing for a few years now, and though I'm only Gold 1, I see this trend happen at all skill levels. Some people have multiple accounts and don't care about their MMR, some just like to troll. Just don't have it in ranked.
I'd be curious to know the thoughts of any Rioter about how these kinds of issues are being addressed, or if the only method of identifying toxic players is through the unfortunately flawed reporting system.
RIOT, you've made a great game, just make this one part of it better for those of us who look forward all day to our one game we can play a night or less.
those feeding, raging, afks.
