Is it bad to duo ranked?

So recently, I got ranked as a silver 4(first time getting ranked \o/). More than half the times, I duoed ranked games with a friend. Another person I know is extremely salty that I got silver. He told me to stop playing as a duo because it doesn't show my true rank. Honestly I don't see the problem with it. It's not like I only duo though, I've done several solos without a problem. In addition, the person I play with is about the same rank as me. Maybe it's because the critic started off as bronze as I just went directly to silver? Is duoing really not a good thing? Duoing is fine, and many players would probably tell you its a great way to climb ranks, as you have 2 out of 5 players who's skill level you know before the game even starts.

I think either method is fine - but I will say you tend to learn different skillsets, and it can get toxic quick. If one player is a higher rank by a large margin, then they might feel like they are carrying the other player. Another problem that tends to occur is that you start becoming dependent on each other because of strategies and playmaking. When you are playing separately, you will thusly not be as strong.

When your playing by yourself, you tend to focus a bit more internally, and I personally think you tend to grow more as a player. Not having to worry about communication and 2nd guessing yourself because of a friend in mic chat is an important thing to consider.

If you are playing for fun, then duoing is fine. Dont brag about your rank saying "Oh look at me im gold 5" when you didnt earn it on your own.

If you want to be good at the game, then play solo ranked. Otherwise youre depending on your duo to good so you can win, which is not what you want. You want to know how to carry with bad teams, from behind, from nobody cooperating, then you play solo. Thats what I do, and have managed to pull 14 accounts to plat+ 3 being in diamond.

No shame in duoing if you're pulling your weight instead of being boosted

Match making would put it in favour of the enemy team which in a sense, if you duo, you're screwing over you, your duo and your entire team. That said, if being an m is your thing, I say go for it.

Go solo if you want to play against your team. Duo if you want at least one person you can somewhat depend on.

Duoing with someone a higher rank than you will increase your MMR. The greater their rank is above yours, the more MMR you'll get per win/loss. If you duo with someone with an equal or lower rank than yours, then your MMR will go down dramatically no matter what. Playing solo queue will increase (or decrease) your MMR based upon how you play. Honestly, it's better to just grind solo games. If you play well, you still won't be truly penalized for losing. You'll get repayed with greater win reward, and a smaller loss penalty.
