Updating the Rune System

I really like how League of Legends is always changing and evolving, to add dynamic into the game. However, I really believe it's time for the rune system to be revamped. As they are now, we generally just see standard rune pages, and that's it. The problem isn't uniformity though. I could go any other rune pages and still be able to play. In the end, they just DON'T matter that much.

Of course, a complete overhaul would be a nightmare to balance, and would be too much. But perhaps some NEW runes could be added?

For example: Increase Size/ Decrease size runes: While they may have been more difficult before, with the advent of the new elixirs, I feel as though this is easily doable. Specific numbers on how much the size should change can be tweaked, but how cool would it be to have an even bigger Cho Gath, or a even smaller Teemo? They won't be OP or anything like that, because changing model size means that flat stats would have to be given up.

DOT Runes: This could be a cool rune, where you could add a small DOT damage to your autos, or maybe similar to Gromp smite where people who attack you take DOT damage. Again, specific numbers could be tweaked, but I think it'd be a fun addition.

I'm sure the community can come up with even more creative ideas, so you guys can post below on what ideas what you think would be awesome too.

I think a shrinking rune would be too op. Fluctuating size changes a lot. The bigger the hit box the easier you are to hit but you can body block a lot of skill shots. The smaller you get and the harder it is for a ss to hit you. In some cases (Teemo) making a champion smaller could severly negatively affect a game.

In general though I think I would be happy to see a rune overhaul. Is it safe to say 60% of runes aren't used by the general community? I think masteries need a tweak too now with the new changes 4.20 brought with it.

I think a big reason you see most standard rune pages falls under two reasons. The first being that certain runes are simply too effecient early game to go with something else given a specific position (example: Junglers should always have armor yellows) The second is that runes aren't cheap, heck some champs are cheaper.

As for your ideas, it would be tricky to balance, but could be interesting if a bit trolly at times. (Super sized tank Teemo anyone?) I like the ideas, I just hope it wouldn't get abused too much lol.

Oh yeah, they were just random ideas for innovative runes. I'm sure Riot's balance team/community can do a better job at deciding what's OP and what's not. I just like the idea of size changing runes though, (I mean, to use them, you would have to give up some other runes that give stats). Make them Quints or something, then it'd be a hard decision whether or not to use them
