Seeking guidance about not-clear game mechanics

Hello there I'm a fairly new player and I've only played enough vs AI games to level up to level seven, And I have a few questions. One How do items work? I know it recommends items for your hero but every-time I've got only those I end up not doing enough damage to get gold faster meaning I can't even get last hits on the little guy's that walk around. But on ash I can because she does more damage. Two Why does this game need so many heroes "Yes I call them "heros" deal with it) because at the end of the day there's only a few possible ways to play and how am i supposed to know what each hero does? Because I can there be sitting there fighting those little guys and a beam of color or what-ever it is shows up goes VOIP! and vaporizes me "While i'm like What's that? Why is that? Oh okay! i'm dead alright that hero has laser's apparently" And the more I play the more I see heros other people play and think "Who the hell is that? Is he a healer? is he a guy that attacks? I don't know! so I have no clue what "lordBingborp-yorminblat" over-there does so how am I supposed to know? Three what are runes mastery's and wards? Four What's the off-lane/jungle? Thank you for your time and I look forward to playing with you in all the future.

Ya, League is a huge burden of knowledge. You need to know a lot to even be semi - successful.

Choosing champions that fit you should be the 1st step, when you play other RPG, what class do you choose; Black Mage, White Mage, Archer, Assassin, Warrior, or Tank, After you figure that out you can lower the Champions down to what fits you. Use some free time to study up on Champions, Items, and which items suit what champions during what situation. Learning League is by no means a easy task, it'll take you awhile, and I mean awhile.

Things I would learn first is Last hitting Minions, (it's harder as a mage so if you pick that class then learn how to do it with their weaker AAs). If you choose mage, mana usage and control is a good thing to know, you don't want to just sit there and spam abilities trying to clear waves. Early levels it's not as huge (Junglers suck) but learning how to manipulate the minion waves is also huge. If you can push your minions into the turret forcing your opponents to farm under tower they'll prolly miss a bunch of them, giving you a gold lead that way, but in doing this you leave yourself open to being ganked by the jungler or roamed apon by the other lanes. Which is where warding comes in, although this won't always help you as there is always more then 1/2/3 ways into a lane, and some champions such as KaynKayn and Talon Talon can clear walls so they have other ways to enter the lane.

I'd go on but I have to go to work, if you have questions feel free to ask.

Champions generally deal damage either by auto-attacking or by using abilities. Depending on the champion you are playing, you should by only Attack Damage items or Ability Power items. To find out if the champ you chose is AD or AP, look at the info page.

Each champion has abilities which usually scale off of AD or AP. Sometimes the ability scales with other stats like Health, Armor, Magic Resist, Movement Speed, etc. For new players, I recommend a champion with targeted (point and click) abilities and self/ally buffing abilities. Skillshots (aim and shoot abilities) take practice and you should focus instead on understanding the game's items and champions.

If you're looking for champions that can be quickly learned I'll list a few. AP Champions:

-Morgana A little trickier, as her main source of damage is a skillshot, her Q that also roots what it hits. Her W is an aoe pool that deals damage to those who step on it. E is a shield that soaks up magic damage and stops ALL disables (slows, stuns, knockups, etc.) that affect you while it's up. Her ult deals damage to nearby champions and 3 seconds later deals that much damage again to those still near you and roots them.

-Annie Easier to pick up. Q targets, W is a short ranged aoe skill shot, E is a self buff that reduces incoming damage. R is a giant teddy bear that deals a LOT of damage to anyone near where it lands. He stays around and attacks enemies for you. Annie's passive makes your next ability (after 4 casts) stun whoever it hits.

For both, build Morellonomicon, Luden's Echo, then Rabadon's Deathcap. Pick up Sorcerer's Shoes at some point. Try to pick mid lane.

AD Champions:

-Garen Easy and fun. His Q gives you more movement speed for a short time and makes your next auto attack stronger and silence (they can't cast spells) for 1.5 seconds. His W is a self buff that reduces incoming damage. Also gives you more Health for each minion you kill. His E makes you spin you sword and deal a lot of damage. It also temporarily lowers the armor of those it hits. R is a point and click execute. It deals a lot of damage to whoever you select. It deals more damage the less health they have. Wait until they have less than 25% hp. Passive regenerates health over time. Build Black Cleaver and then tanky items like Spirit Visage, Dead Man's Plate, and Randuin's Omen. Go top lane if possible.

-Ashe Q makes your auto attacks deal more damage when active. requires you to attack a few times first. W is an skill shot that damages those it hits and applies your passive. E fires a "scout" to give vision along it's path and where it lands (anywhere on the map). R is a skillshot that deals damage to the first champion hit and stuns them depending on how long it traveling. Slows nearby enemies upon impact. Passive applies a debuff to enemies that you hit with auto attacks and also your W. The debuff makes your auto attacks deal more damage (scaling on your critical hit chance) Also, you can't crit for more damage, you just always deal more damage instead. Build Runaan's Hurricane, Infinity Edge, Static Shiv, and Berserker's Greaves. Try to play in bot lane.

All these champions are cheap to buy as they each cost 450 ip (except morgana, she costs 1350).

As for runes/masteries, don't worry about them. They are being replaced soon. Worry about the new stuff after you get to level 20 or so.

Regarding the jungle; that's the area in between lanes. There are monster that give gold in there if you kill them. Generally there is 1 person top, 1 mid, a support and a ranged AD champion bot, and someone in the jungle. The "jungler" gets gold by killing the neutral monsters in the jg. They also "gank" the other lanes when they can. "Ganking" is going to another lane to try and kill a low health enemy champion. Usually the jungler will only gank other lanes if it's safe (the enemy is close to your tower).

Also, FYI: ~20 cs (minion kills) is equivalent to one champion kill. So, the person who is 3/1/0 with 20 cs has a LOT less gold than the person who is 1/1/0 with 80 cs. They have about 600 less gold.

Have fun learning the champions and have even more fun playing! [slayer-jinx-wink]

If you take time and look at what the items do you can learn easy.

Like The starter items item 1055 Doran's Blade gives +8 attack damage +80 Hp +3% life steal, you do 8 more dmg than you do without that item and you have 80 more hp than you did before you had the item And you have a tiny bit of life steal (gain Hp on per auto/basic attack). it says them right in the shop you just need to read and learn the items to find which one suits your champ the best. also recommended builds help and are not bad but they are not always the best to build. Hope this helps

This Video should help a little https://youtu.be/6CcWoJE93V0

  • One : Attack Damage items give you more damage on your right clicks for any champion and on certains spells (you know if they have an Attack Damage or AD scaling if some numbers are orange).Everyone can use AD, but it is better on champion with scalings on abilities or steroids. The typical users for AD items are Marksmen. Ashe Ashe is a champion which uses AD for example. Ability Power or AP gives some champions only more damage but only for their spells. You can see if they have an AP scaling if some numbers are green. Those champions are usually mages, like Lux Lux?

So, to get the most of your items, use the recommended items list; if you get AD, like item 3031 , then you can just use it by attacking minions normally or with abilities. If you get AP, like item 3165 , then you will have to use your spells to kill the little guys called minions more easily.

  • Two : Yes, there are a lot of champions in the game, if you want to look at what you are facing a bit, you can go on the official website http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/ in the loading screen and try to look for your lordBingborp-yorminblat.

  • Three : You really shouldn't care about those right now, they are going to be changed in about 2 weeks.

  • Four : Instead of having two people top, sometimes you will have someone going in the jungle, with the summoner spell summoner 11 Smite, unlocked at level 10. This way, that person can farm the monsters in the forest( or river ), which lets the top guy have solo experience while the jungler can help other teammates by performing a gank (basically going on a lane to help kill the ennemies). Not every champion can jungle easily however, so if you want to try it out, you should first reach lvl 10 and you should pick an easy jungler like MasterYi Master Yi or Warwick Warwick.

Hope I helped

once you play for a while the champions stick to you you know what each champ does after you play for atleast 5 months or even a year
