Why Dynamic Queue is a failure at all levels

  1. Failure to play in a competitive environment with your friends. One of the main upsides of Dynamic Queue is the ability to play with 4 of your friends as you climb the ranked ladder. The issue is that Riot doesn't allow you to play with your friends if they are two divisions lower than you. Are you bronze, but all of your friends are gold? Too bad hope you find some new friends in Silver and Bronze. Are you Diamond but all of your friends are Gold are lower? Too bad hope you find some new friends in Plat+.

Most people will say "but if they allowed a larger gap than games would be all over the place for people in 2-5 man queues". You would be right. If you have a 1000 MMR Bronze Player with a 2000 Plat Player You're going to get a game at around the High Silver-Low Gold level or around a 500 MMR difference. This is going to make the rest of your team miserable due to the wide gap of skill throughout the game. Because of this, it's impossible to successfully allow 2-5 man queues without restrictions if you want healthy games.

  1. Players being boosted by their teammates ruin the ranked experience. I'm sure you've all seen this. A player who plays like absolute garbage in one of your games. You go to their op.gg or lolking to see that nearly every game is played like absolute garbage, and they're sitting at ~40-43% WR with 150+ games played. More investigating shows that they only win the games in which they play with a particular group of players.

Basically, what is occurring is these players are constantly playing with a group of players (usually 3+) who in a solo queue ladder are astronomically better than them (Usually a division and a half). What happens is when these players leave the groups who are indeed carrying these players and join a ranked as a solo player their MMR is going to be boosted because they're winning games they shouldn't be. This ends up drastically reducing the chances of the team who acquires this player simply because this player is boosted an entire division from where they should be.

This same issue occurred with the duo queue system but was much harder to pull off simply because the player who was carrying was only 20% of the team. With 3 people you now have 40% of the team able to carry and with 4 you now have 60%. Since solo queue and premades are so mixed there is no way to accurately tell the individual skill of a player in this system. What occurs in this dynamic queue system is team skill and individual skill are mixed to the point where it's impossible to tell the difference until you play a game with that player.

The old system of 5 man and solo queue teams pulled this off the best simply because it gave a clear representation of individual skill of a player and the team skill of a player. You could be a Diamond level Solo Queue player and a Silver level 5 man player which was okay simply because they were measuring two entirely different set of skills.

In conclusion, since you can't get an accurate skill rating, and you can't even play with the friends who you want to play with Dynamic Queue has no purpose. It has essentially become a more try hard version of a draft pick where your teammates are more likely to scream at you. None of the matches feel fair or even at any elo no matter if you are solo or in a premade.

  1. You don't have to party up to climb. Only low elo players believe it's the matchmaking keeping them down.
  2. If people were getting boosted we would see the issue in high elo. D5 is still top 1% of the community with around 20k players. This is the same as last season. Plat is still top 5%. It's like scripting. It will carry you through gold but once you hit plat you still need mechanics.

DQ is fine the way it is and still represents individual skill level just not every game, which is the same as last season.
