How the hell do you get an S rank?

Okay, this has been driving me nuts for a while now. How the hell do you get an S rank?

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2446035276/40146362?tab=overview

Second most kills in the game behind only the 27 kill adc. Least deaths. Tied for third overall on assists. Most wards dropped on my team, second most wards overall. Second most damage on my team, third most overall. Every dragon secured except one. While I don't claim that all my games go so well, as far as I can gather I did everything in this one right. Lots of fight participation, most kill participation outside of the super fed adc, objectives and map control, the only thing I could've probably done better was farm, because I put it off in favour of running across the map to try and help my team. Overall one of my best games in a long ass time...

And yet it was only an A. Even more infuriating is that I've gotten S ranks on other champs with drastically worse performances.

So what the hell am I misunderstanding about how grading is done?

CS more, ward more. For laners, 6-7+ cs/m with good k/d/a usually gets an S- atleast For junglers, I think 5+ cs/m with good k/d/a usually gets an S. For supports, a lot of wards placed/destroyed, assists, low deaths, and very minorly CS (you can cs as a support if no one else is around to get it) should get an S.

There's no exact formula for an S and it's constantly changing depending on how other people are doing with the champion in the same role, but just from what I've seen, CS and deaths are very important. No one knows what all goes into grading though.

I looked at the stats of the game. You had an excellent kda, but 153 farm at ~37 minutes is pitiful, especially on a power farmer like shyvana. To put it into perspective, I usually get around 7 farm per minute with shyvana jungle. In your game, you had approximately 4 farm per minute. Farming more takes away from your kill participation, but the farm is a really important aspect of those S ranks. I'm a lv 7 shyvana, and I'm smurfing from gold, in case you want to question my credibility.

Just a side note, I prefer flash over exhaust on shyvana because even though shyvana's only cc is ult, flash just allows you to do so much more. Exhaust is getting a nerf anyway, so blue smite will serve the same purpose.

Hope this helped. Good luck getting those S ranks!

I think one of the most important factors is farming. I went 3/0/1 in a 28min game as shyvana, I had about 25% kill participation, but I literally had 260 farm. Easy S-

It's pretty simple to understand, but much harder to accomplish.

Here's the simple version, using an example:

If you play Zac Jungle, at the end of the match, your performance is compared to every other Zac Jungle. This is where many people seem to be confused about the Mastery Ranks. Your performance isn't compared to your team, or the enemy team. You're ranked based on how well you play that champion in that role.

Even simpler is this: Gold-per-Minute (GPM) is the only stat that matters in this comparison. I myself struggled with this idea for a bit, but it's correct. Your deaths, kills, assists, minions, turrets, dragons, Barons, etc. all effect your GPM. If you die a lot, you have less time to earn gold. I can vouch that 10-1-1 is more valuable in the Mastery Rank comparison than 1-1-10 because kills are worth more gold than assists. You'll have the same KDA with each score, but your GPM is higher with more kills.

So, if you want to get an S with a very popular, very strong champion, like Zac, you essentially need to move a mountain and strike a lucky gold vein underneath it.

My two best games with Zac recently: Victory! -30min- -4-0-11- -142 CS- -11k gold- -366 GPM- A+
Victory! -29min- -10-1-6- -121 CS- -12k gold- -413 GPM- S-

You can see the importance of GPM because my stats here are not that different, but those kills are worth more than the assists and higher CS in the A+ game. This is not to suggest that you should try to steal kills, because getting an S in a game where you lose is shameful (I personally don't think it should be possible, but I'm a purist).

What you might see sometimes (for the clever pricks who care more about getting Rank 7 Mastery than winning) is someone playing a champion in a very off-meta role, like Yasuo Support or something that just isn't done by anyone serious. They do this because the pool of Yasuo Supports is smaller, so they're compared to a pretty small group versus Yasuo Top, for example. Because the pool for comparison is smaller, they have a higher chance of getting an S.

Don't do that.

in general, the min requirements is 15-20+ kills, less than 3 deaths, and 200+ CS minimum from what i have seen. and it also depends on how well other players do. if say ya got warwick, and the top 10% of players average 17 kills, and 186 CS, that is the general requirement to get in that top 10% for example. In general from what i have analyzed, it's usually 15+ kills less than 3 deaths, and 200+ CS, on top of ward placement/participation, and objective/kill participation. Some champs are exceptions, such as kayle, where the minimum is 20+ kills and 250+ CS for a S, since her waveclear is incredibly strong and she can have several kills as well because of her late game power

I think there's only 2 main factors involved here, # of assists and the # of deaths. The more assists and less deaths you have, the greater chance you have at getting s.

At 38 minutes with 14 kills too few to get an s If u got those kills and they surrendered at 15/20 minutes u could of had an s+ Thats just how it works

Its totally based on who else is playing that champion in that role and how they perform so if you're playing a strong meta champ in a popular role its harder to get a high grade because you're stacking up against top players. Example being i recently got an S on karthus in the adc role for a very average game probably because nobody else is playing that.
