Does Spell-Thief's Edge Need a Buff?

Hey everyone.

Just wanted to see how people feel about Spell-Theif's edge. Do you feel that his item needs a bit of a buff in regards to the other support items? If so, how do you think the item should be buffed? if not, tell me why.

have a good one!

EDIT:

Thank you all for the replies so far! as it stands it seems people generally agree that Spell-Thief's Edge is fine, but its Frost Queen's Claim that is actually the issue.

Once again, thanks for the replies, keep posting and discussing!

It's the worst of the support items. The gold income is way lower than the others and it builds into an item that has limited usage.

Spell thief has been out of the meta because pretty much every ranged support has got their auto attack ranged reduced or mana cost increased. Making it tougher to proc all the hits without graves buttfucking you well you're at it.

I don't get why people think an AoE slow is "lackluster" but the shit single target shield from FotM isn't.

I don't think so. It has really good gold regen, okay stats when upgraded (not super great, but okay), and the slow isn't half bad at the right times.

In comparison, Talisman has more versatile utility and decent gold gen, but no combat stats. Movement speed and regen is nice, but it's not boosting any abilities like AP would.

FotM is a bitch with gold gen if your teammates won't last-hit minions, but it gives a lot of health and the active is pretty good offensively and defensively.

I'd say all three support items have their strengths and weaknesses, and are pretty balanced so. FQC could be more popular, but I believe it's intentionally kept a bit weaker on purpose for some reason. Or at least that's what I heard. Don't quote me.

The upgrades could be better. Currently not worth upgrading. Could help curb the tank support meta if it was a worthwhile upgrade.

Maybe rework the active into a low cooldown poke ability.

No, it doesn't. It's already got the highest gold output of all the support items by far on the champions that can use it.

What needs a buff is Frost Queen's Claim. Spellthief is an incredible item, it's just that it doesn't build into anything good.

I don't feel like FQC is competitive at all to the benefit of a shield or run speed that the others give.

It's AP impact is underwhelming, and the skillshot slow is ... meh. I think it would be a lot more interesting combined with a Sheen and increased projectile speed/range.

I find myself building Spellthief into a Codex and then making a real item out of codex, because FQC doesn't give you nearly the same mana sustain as Athenes or Morellonomicon.

Spellthief's Edge doesn't. The later items that it builds into, however...

i always go talisman after the 2nd piece.

spell thief>upgrade>talisman at the end
