When players DC (what do?)

First and foremost, disconnects happen, and (in my opinion) most players who disconnect didn't do it on purpose. Lots of people play league on toasters, this is well known. Until recently i was one of these players. Do you know how long it takes to restart a computer and log back into league when it is [insert huge # here] years old? the answer is: Way to long for your team to have a chance.

Lets take the time to tally very quickly what the team losses when a player disconnects:

-1/5 of their map presence (forget about dragon or baron, you are one man down, just keep the lanes healthy) -1/5 team XP income (unless DC was support/ADC in which case MORE than 1/5th is lost due to bonus xp generated by duo lane.) -1/5 of team gold income (unless DC was support/ADC in which case MORE gold was lost due to most supports' passive gold gen. 'when minion dies in proximity' effect) -team moral takes a hit. (we all know league is ~80% mindset, DCs take you out of 'the zone') -enemy team gains moral (they know the game is sealed, its 4v5! surrender 20 right? (this can also be a weakness for enemy team.. but very seldomly))

loss prevention has been proposed as a solution by many players who feel the pain of DCs, but introducing loss prevention is far too abusable. so here is my alternative:

  1. When a summoner is disconnected from the network, the champion shall still receive XP to keep them in line with the lowest leveled champion on the rift. This effect stops once the summoner reconnects.

  2. Champions get a paltry sum of gold equal to [an appropriately low %] of the teams income. This effect stops once the summoner reconnects.

These two changes (i feel) do not have much abuse potential since the passive xp/gold gain is based off of the teams' income (and the 4v5 advantage is still very relevant), and would encourage people who disconnect to get back into the game and not just take it as a loss.

With all the criticism about the networks being terrible in 'X' location (i live in west coast Canada, i rarely have network issues, but it does happen) this seems like even more of a reason to consider this kind of change.

So what do you guys think? is there something I’m missing? is this abusable? why isn’t this already a thing?

TL:DR teams loose too much for having a DC on their team. Give the DC player base XP/Gold to keep them in line with the lowest players on the rift. hopefully this will encourage DC'd players to rejoin, and help curb the effects of summoners playing on toasters.

Let me tell you a story of a time long ago when i got dc. It began because my friend shutdown the puter while the game was loading. i was pissed. and i was even more dismayed when i got into game, because the first thing i see is another lvl one champion standing beside me. you might be thinking that its not the worste thing in the world to have 2 dc for the first five minutes, but on the contrar, this was a 3v3 game.

Just when i was starting to believe that all hope was lost, i was wise enough to click tab. It turns out that the irelia who had been playing 1v1, have not only stopped them from getting any tower damage down, by walking between both towers, but she was 5-0! i was amazed to say the least, but we still had a 2v3 game ahead of us and i was behind by six lvls.

They all had their ults and i didnt even have 2 skills yet. but luck was blowing in our direction that day, because i had chosen lux as my champion. a tempting, juicy little target, with no damage and no lvls i had only one hope, the one thing that stood in between those horny enemy pantheon mother f-ers and my dainty little lux shoulders was irelia. a jumpy little ****house of damage.

After many stuns and man fights, with very few of allie deaths, we had almost done it. we had them down to their last 2 towers and they were fighting off super minions, but they were still fighting. it was getting bad. Irelia and i knew what we were doing, but the later the game got, the more the 3v2 advantage began to play into their favor. the tides were turning and there was little we could do.

In the end, we were all happy. the game was hard fought and well enjoyed. they did come back and take all our towers but then,, they let us win. they acceopted defeat gloriously and with empathy for our DC
