Quality of life: Disconnects and Loss Prevention: What is the downside?

I don't see why we don't get loss prevented when someone disconnects. Sure, penalize the leaver, but why does everyone else have to suffer? I don't think it would be that difficult to implement and I don't see the downside. So what's the situation? I've noticed that other threads of this nature get downvotes. Someone must know something I don't. They have this system in DOTA 2. It's unnecessary frustration. Some of us only have so many hours per week to devote to ranked, and when a large portion of that time gets literally tossed down the tubes, it makes me wonder why Valve does it and Riot doesn't. Are there plans to implement this? If not, why not?

I don't see the downside.

There are a number of downsides.

First of all, it encourages players to try to force a teammate to quit when they are already down. Imagine someone in ranked is having a very bad game, and gives away a lot of kills. His teammates might already be raging at him. If you made it so teams with a DC have loss prevented, other players might intentionally try to get him to quit the game (by raging at him, harassing him, etc.) so that they don't lose LP. So, basically, it encourages toxicity.

Second, it could be abused by duo queues/ELO boosters. If someone is in a promo, and the game is going badly, he might ask his partner to DC to get a loss prevented.

Third, it leads to ELO inflation. In a normal game, 5 people gain LP and 5 people lose LP. If teams with a DC got a loss prevented, then, in x% of games, 5 people would gain LP, and only 1 person would lose LP. ELO inflation is a problem because it rewards people for playing a lot of games instead of rewarding them for winning a high percentage of their games.

Losing LP because your teammate DC'd is super frustrating; we've all been there, and it sucks. That being said, you're as likely to be on the 5v4 as the 4v5 team, so things should pretty much even out over enough games.

Have you really never read any of those threads It's not like Guac's answer wasn't in any of them.
