Riot, some "constructive criticism" for the live balance team or the game as a whole

I already know a couple of possible opinions on people seeing the title or viewing this post; this is either: A. Another complainer who knows nothing B. Someone else that is as disappointed with this as I am C. I just clicked this to shitpost

Fact of the matter is, Riot, specifically the live balance team, is lying to us and pussyfooting around the actual problems rather then trying to fix them for no good reason. They have several options to use in problem solving and balancing but they just use deceit and "we'll fix it eventually, stop bothering us" to ignore the problems at hand.

Let's start with one possible solution, shall we?

LISTEN TO YOUR COMMUNITY. IT IS THE LARGEST IN THE ENTIRE VIDEO GAME WORLD.

You have all these content creators and dedicated lane mains that you practically ignore for no good reason. Sure, you might not like some of the ways they deal with problems but that's only because they are passionate about the game they play (sometimes for a living) and care about it's future. A certain individual you very clearly don't like is Hashinshin. Sure, he might be toxic but it's because he's passionate about the game and cares about it. Same thing with Tyler1. Both of these people basically play the game for a living and have a fair amount of people following them and caring about their views and agreeing with them but you don't listen to either of them. When it comes to the balancing, you don't want people to just tell you yes or that sounds good. You want people that are going to elaborate on their opinions and speak up if they don't like what they're putting out. People like Tyler and Hashinshin will do that. Probably not in the nicest way, but they will be honest and they have experience with your game.
You also have people straight dedicated to one champion and one champion only that you probably don't even consult when you do something to their champion. Why not? They will know if what you're going to do is going to be bad or good or if it's necessary or not. Why not ask them what they think the champion needs? Hell, you have a survey system implemented into the game, ask the entire game itself. I know the games aren't entirely similar, but the reason why Old School Runescape, maybe even Runescape in general has had success is because they frequently run ideas by their community and ask for opinions. Same with Warframe. They run the ideas, say what they want to do with them and if they don't hit the mark, they don't do them or change them based on feedback. You don't. So many specific role mains or specific champion mains aren't asked how they feel about changes proposed to their champ or role and/or you don't care what they have to say anyways. You just do what you think is best and tell us to shut up and eat it. Recently, Meddler lied to us all about the popularity of roles. Said that top lane was above support in terms of popularity in higher mmr when a handful of professional players in high mmr said otherwise. Why do you allow that? That's not healthy. People don't enjoy being deceived or lied to unless they're at a magic show. Last I checked, League of Legends isn't one.

HIRE PEOPLE THAT WON'T LIE TO US, THAT CARE ABOUT THE GAME, AND THAT STILL PLAY IT.

This kind of goes off the same thing I said above. Very clearly, some individuals, if not all, on the live balance team just simply want to deceive us or think it's the best option and just tiptoe around issues at hand. Hell, some of them said that they don't need to play the game in order to balance it. And that's just really wrong. Why not hire individuals that actually tell us the truth, plain and simple and that frequently play the game? Don't you have some sort of play testing team? Are they full of people that just say "oh yes, this is great, I love working for this company, they pay me a lot of money to keep my mouth shut or lie"? Because surely, if someone actually played this game seriously and the way it was originally intended, to be a competitive arena full of different styles of champions from different places and backgrounds all with different abilities to make all of them unique, they would realize flaws in the current game or meta. I've been playing since season 2 and used to love the end game fantasy style of play. The long, drawn out battles, full of punishment and rewards for those that master that style. Even the games where the enemy works together to deny that ideal and end the game faster. That's not so much the case anymore. You can barely play for late game anymore, because snowballing and early-mid game power spikes are rewarded significantly higher and easier to do than hold out for late game champions to shine through. Hell, some of the champions that used to be late game powerhouses got streamlined into mid game ones through the band aids that are Runes. And that brings me to my final thoughts and something I would be interested in seeing separately.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS.

Obviously, the above two chunks of text are also my opinions, but this is the one where I'll be more straight forward. It'll just be a summary or even just a list of what I think Riot should do.
  • Get rid of anyone on the live balance team who has lied to the community on their own behalf or that doesn't play the game. If you lie to us, you aren't looking out for us. If you don't even play the game, why the heck should you be in charge of it.
  • Ask the community what they want. Polls and surveys to the general public, or get opinions from popular figure heads of the community. Anyone from YouTubers to Twitch streamers to professional players, though the game they play is basically on it's own. Your current surveys aren't specific enough to anything and basically ask for airless opinions.
  • Use the Public Beta Environment the way it should be used. Listen to people's feedback that use it, take away and refine what isn't liked, and push through what is.

And finally, one of my personal things I want to see.

No Runes Mode or entirely.

To me, I think old runes were healthier than what we have now in most ways. They didn't band aid problems heavily or out of a champion, they just gave some quality of life stats. Sure they were way too overpriced and weirdly implemented for new players, but that was something that could have been fixed instead of just throwing them all away. Another argument was that there wasn't enough "individuality and uniqueness" between players with runes. And to that I say: so what? We aren't playing to have individual notches on a sheet of paper. We're playing to have individual skill. To fight in an arena. To use bare wits and punish our opponent's weaknesses or get crushed by their strengths. The only times I can recall old runes being disliked was obviously their prices and implementation to new players and the dodge chance runes. Nonetheless, we could still manage without them. So, that brings me to this idea. A no runes at all mode. No bandaids to fix a champions problems or make them less prevalent, no significant strengths over certain other runes because they don't exist at all. Obviously, this mode would more than likely require individual champion tweaking, more than likely their stats or numbers, same with items. But, runes, in my opinion, operate and enforce at a significantly higher plane than items. They abuse a champions strengths and soften or silence their weaknesses. So, if they were gone completely, is it wrong to think that individual champion differences, abilities and traits and choices of items would be exemplified healthier and stronger than if runes were there? Because to me, that is one thing I feel like is one of the most important things you can do. Show individuality and skill with who you're playing against your opponents, rather than what keystone you took. Maybe that's a pipe dream. But, it's one I have and one that I personally think could work with enough dedication.

Anyways, thanks for reading my "rant and opinions" if you'd so wish to call them those things. I care about League of Legends as a whole, I want the game to succeed and not tarnish it's own reputation. League of Legends personally entertains and frustrates me like no other game can, and for that I love it and hate it, all at the same time. Thank you again if you did read all of this. Feel free to comment or express yourself below, to upvote or downvote as you so desire because constructive criticism is the basis of this post in the first place. Maybe we'll meet at some point on the Rift. Until then, farewell and glhf, summoner. [slayer-jinx-wink]

i am pretty sure that everyone who works on live balance actually has to play the game since they have to test things and have to put some form of input with others... pretty sure it is a requirement for them to play the game.

The PBE is a horrible place to test balance, it has been proven time and time again. Recently they were saying that Zoe would require buffs since she was weak... look at her. Skarner was overbuffed in his rework because the PBE was crying about how weak he was and they had to literally revert the buff they gave him due to that reaction and he was fine afterwards.

Can you actually provide some proof of some rioter lying and that isn't a 6 year old comment?
