Why is Nami the only champion who can control water with her abilities?

I mean, there aren't even that many "water" related champions. We have Illaoi, Fizz, Pyke, and Nami.. but three of them don't actually do anything relating to water with their abilities. Fizz summons a shark, Illaoi has a bunch of octopus tentacles, and Pyke doesn't have anything water themed to him except his lore. Nami is the only one who directly controls water with her abilities.

Are we ever going to get a carry champion who somehow uses water related abilities, or is water not a dangerous element?

Are you saying this with or without the knowledge that Qiyana is the "Empress of the Elements"? ... meaning she likely has some control over water.

It was originally a technical thing. They just couldn't do water until Nami. I guess they just haven't done another since then.

We've been asking for a water mage since before season 1. There was one planned, but it was scrapped. They tried to market Fizz and Nautilus as water mages, but we weren't having it. Then we got Nami, which was good enough. Given we have two ice champions and Nami, I wouldn't expect another water champion .

There is Tahm Kench, at least his base skin you see a swamp and he is a catfish. Also ice is a form of water so Anivia technically controls water through her True Ice. Finally the air we breath contains 30-80% humidity sooooo INDIRECTLY Janna can controll water particles with her tornadoes ( this is a strech i know). So in a sence there are more water related champions than you think while there arent as many for other elements.

There was a scrapped champion in very early league, he looked like a big twister of water but Riot said nothing they did at that time looked right, so they scrapped him

Yes, Nami is the only champion that uses actual water in her abilities. Unless you count Janna's ult, Monsoon, though ir has no water visuals.

Fun fact: Nami herself doesn't have the power to control water the staff she wields does.
