Jeff Kaplan singlehandedly puts Riot to shame
Seriously. Overwatch players are incredibly lucky to have a game director like him. The game has been out for a month and he has shown infinitely more transparency than all of Riot has, EVER.
Players express concerns with the future of Overwatch? He's got you covered; http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20745285677#post-12
The big man himself giving you the rundown of what's to be expected when competitive launches? Check; https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=6&v=GAOaXSVZVTM
Meanwhile Riot does the "round-table", skirts the major issues with scripted PR-nonsense, and makes Scarra, fucking Scarra, the nicest guy in competitive gaming, look like he basically wants to bitchslap everyone but Gbay99 at that table; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwPa1SGLGv0
"Oh but Thumpin, Blizzard uses dynamic queue for Overwatch too!" I know they do. You know why it's ok? Because there is a tool to deal with that built into the game itself. Voice comms. Also, if you'd care to read through the first link I posted you'll find that Jeff directly addresses the additional strain that DQ puts on the matchmaking system
"Groups are a big challenge in our matchmaking system. You can group with people of wildly varying skill and ping and we allow you to. It’s pretty unlikely that there is another group in the queue that exactly mirrors the unique circumstances that you have set up (pings, skills etc.). We want you to group. We feel that it’s the best way to play the game. So we try to avoid things that discourage grouping and we want to continually improve the social systems so that you’ll find it easier and easier to group with people you have chosen to play with. Playing with people you choose to play with is going to be more reliably fun than playing with people we choose for you. I once used the analogy of hanging out with people on a Saturday night. If you were to go out with five of your friends it would probably be a better time than if we tried to find 5 random people for you to go out with, no matter how smart we were in our selection process…"
In the span of a month, this one person who also happens to be the game director behind Overwatch has done more to earn my trust than Riot has done since I started playing in season 2. We ask for replays? Nah, servers can't handle it. Voice comms? Nope. Sandbox mode? STFU you toxic kid! Better tutorial? Here's what Tryndamere had to say...
"Why do you care about a better tutorial?"
Interesting comment chain that lead to this statement for you to look at; https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/4mdtua/merrills_musings_tryndameres_response/d3v4xyj?context=3
Also notice how in the previous posts one user points out several issues that new players have with LoL such as little feedback (death recap please), bad tutorial, steep learning curve, and Tryndamere's initial response is "Yah - we could fix all that stuff but we prioritize deeper gameplay ;)"
So to Riot, Tryndamere, and LoL in general. Good luck competing with Jeff mfing Kaplan.
