What drawbacks are there to picking Rakan?

I'm genuinely curious if there is anything you lose out of picking Rakan, as opposed to other supports.

You have an engage, healer, sheilder with scaling AP. There seem to be no cons at all to playing this champion as opposed to literally anything else. There is no reason to play anything else. You lose nothing by picking this champion.

Now, if you play Braum Brand Janna you're losing engage, healing/sheilding, or damage.

If you have further insight to playing against Rakan, please let me know for my own sanity.

He's squishy and his healing + shielding is nothing special. He does not do very much damage.

You're not going to be as good at engaging as someone like an alistar because you're just going to get bursted down. You're not going to shield or heal your teammates for as much as someone like sona or nami. Heck you won't even do as much damage as a nami.

Minimal damage, negligible healing and shielding, and his only saving grace is his ultimate and his telegraphed delayed knock up. He is not as tanky as tanky supports and he is not as protective as healing supports. Also, his obsession with Xayah annoys me. He isn't even his own person lore wise. He's her pet.

he bursts like a bubble if you don't react fast enough or position correctly, your shields are small compared to other supports, your heals are small compared to other supports, your laning is actually quite weak in select situations and hook supports like thresh and nautilus can counter your engage easily.

To be honest, Rakan has only got 1 good quality and that is his instantaneous RFlashW mid/late game that wins teamfights. His lane phase is usually miserable especially if not paired with Xaya

his MR growth is very low so he's forever squishy to magic damage. by contrast his armour growth is one of the best in the game.

Okay, so this really threw me off when I first played him, but he's deceptionally squishy. For a short range, dive heavy engager, he's not at all tanky. He's like a naked man running in a crowed; completely exposed and only serves to distract people.

Pick Braum, you get more consistent slows and team defense. Brand, more damage for kill securing (Rakan's damage is crap). Pick Janna, way better peel and team healing. If you've played these three not do those as well as Rakan, those are not good support players.

low range, he can't bring champions near him like other catchers can, engage is dodgeable, squishy
