Diverging Diamond to Bronze Players
Hey hey people, I wrote an essay on the difference between diamond and bronze players. I wanted to see how everyone would like this! It's pretty long, but I think it could be very useful to know how to climb and spot difference. (Also repost from GD)
Diverging Diamond to Bronze Players
Not many people know what exactly makes a good player good or a bad player bad. Sure, it is easy to point out who is good and bad, but why are they like that? Is it because of talent or hard work or both? Well that answer in League of Legends can be numerous things. Depending on which answers you figured out, that can translate into what rank you can achieve. Either it be one of the highest pinnacle of skill (Diamond players) or one of the lowest and must needed education (Bronze players). The key factors, which are Mechanical skill, attitude, and game knowledge, help determine the difference between the two types of players.
First of all, mechanics are overrated, but still vital to being a good player. Mechanics are a result of practice and research; there is no such thing as talent, rather it should be called hard work. Diamond players are diamond because of their research from watching better players than them and/or practicing their main characters over and over again. People mistake talent for hard work all the time, especially bronze players. A bronze player might think the only reason they can’t climb higher in rank is because they have no talent. However, they are more likely not putting time into researching or playing the actual game. As a result, they lose more games because they do not have the raw mechanical skill to succeed. Talent does not exist; any player can be as good as the next if they put in the time to learn. The sooner a bronze player learns this the better.
Another big factor in getting better is having a good attitude. Having the right outlook on the game can definitely change the outcome of it, good or bad. For example, a diamond player might be nice to his teammates or cooperative, and strive for everyone to play their best. These players do not give up so easily, especially if there is a chance they might win. Rather than tipping over and falling if a mistake happens, they keep trying in hopes they win. Even though they won’t win all of their games, they will win ones that would have been over if they gave up. On the other hand, a bronze player isn’t so keen on having a good attitude. A bronze player might let their emotions get the best of them, and starts giving negative attitude to not only their team, but the game itself. They start to blame and point fingers at things wrong; like characters being overpowered, bad teammates, or all of the above and more. They falter when something goes wrong too. Rather than keep trying like a diamond player, they instantly give up. This not only causes you to lose most if not all games, but makes you worse as player. Since you are practicing bad things over and over again, you will keep this attitude and it will be hard to adjust from it.
Last but not least, in-game knowledge can also be a key difference. More specifically, knowing your in game character’s limits and enemy character’s limits. Diamond players know a lot about the game, and how far you can go with it. Most of them also have a reoccurring factor of playing the same character(s) over and over again to have great experience on it. It’s like first time drivers. At first, they might be really bad at driving and fail the driving test a couple of times. However, as they drive more and more they get better and better to the point they finally pass that drivers test their mom has been nagging about. The champions in the game are very unique and each of them are different types of cars in a way with different types of limits and procedures. Since diamond players know the limits of their character, they are more confident in making those high-risk and high-reward plays to help win the game. However, on the other side of the coin bronze players do not. They are more prime to picking random characters, which they don’t have much experience on. As a result, they do not know the potential for that specific character. They do not know how to seize an advantage when displayed for them, and would rather make no risk or too much risk and fail. Imagine riding a bike for your whole life, and then suddenly joining a competition while using a skate board with close to no practice with it. This is basically the same thing most bronze players do.
It takes a lot to be a diamond player, but these players use to be bronze once; no player just started diamond. If bronze players really wanted to succeed, they would put in the time and learn from the bottom up. After all, that is just how to get better in any skill. With hard work and consistency, anyone can succeed in anything. The Michael Jordan in League of Legends Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok also believes in this. When questioned what makes him so good he says, “I think that effort is what makes me as good as I am.”
