New Gamemode idea and how it can improve the game.
I don't really know in which board this post would belong, so I'll post it in gameplay as i find it fits the post the most probably.
Pretty much what the title says really. But, before Lately there's been a lot of discussing in the community about how the game has changed from previous seasons, now being WAY more competitive than how it used to be, the patches being a lot more gamechanging than what they used to be. And don't trust me, you can see the difference by looking at patches from a while ago and looking at the ones now, the most recents ones for example.
And that isn't bad at all. Things change, and making the game more competitive, more fresh and new is natural, but it feels like something has been lost along the way for casual players, who just want to have some fun on a sunday afternoon, without worrying about being good or bad at the game. Even
All-Stars has gotten competitive, which is something I really feel sad for, as I assisted the 2016 All-Stars and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, you can enjoy a game that is highly competitive and requires you to invest lots of time, but some people don't, as since I've seen a kind of discontent from these side of the community I thought maybe I could give an idea to help out.
I'll stop rambling now and describing the actual idea. It's pretty simple and I think it could work. My idea is having a "Legacy" gamemode, where you actually play with the champions and items that were in that patch. Let me give an example, you play on patch 5.3, only being allowed to play certain champions (the ones available at that time, so not Zoe for example) and with all the items, objectives, summoners (yes, Revive, Clairvoyance and the sort) and all that good stuff. You will be playing the game like you would have played in that patch, basically. It would be semi-permanent, as it would always be available, but every 2 weeks the gamemode would change to another patch, just as actual new patchs come out right now. The game wouldn't have ranked (obviously) or nothing of the sort. Just for fun!
I find it would provide a fun alternative to the current meta without playing gamemodes that change the game to much. It's the League experience we know and love while providing a casual alternative by giving new life to the previous patches. We've had 8 and a half years of League know, and it will be nostalgic being able to play those again. I'm sure I wont be the only one that will come back to play it.
However, it could have some downsides. I don't know how hard it is to replicate a patch, if all the data to the items are stored somewhere, or how hard it would be to program it. I also don't know how remakes should be handled, should the champions be able to be played, not be able to be played, or going all the way and using the pre-remake versions even though I think it would be quite hard (good luck with Ryze if you actually decide to do it this way). It may not even be possible, or just not that good of an idea to invest the effort needed to make it a reality. But Riot once said they wanted League to be like football or basketball, something generations would enjoy, where parents would introduce their children to it, or where it just would be a part of everyone's lives, just like everyone more or less knows what football is. But the fact is, people who play football competitively are a rather small percentage of people who play. When i was little I wouldnt even play on a football pitch, we would just use the streetlights and some cans we found in the floor to mark the goals and we would start kicking the ball just for the sake of having a good time. But I find League lacks that currently. If you want to play, you can only be a casual to some degree. I used to go somewhere without internet on summers holidays, come back , and be able to play without reading any patch notes. But now I'm out of the game for a month and struggle to play, even in normals people are really competitive, and off meta builds will probably make you lose the lane and the game. Even if you think my idea is really bad, which could be true, just think of a way to kinda fix this problem. I think I'm not the only one who has experienced it, and I certainly think it would really make a lot of old players happy.
Finally, if you've actually read the whole post, thank you for spending time reading this, and leave suggestions and comments if you want. This isn't only regarding my idea and trying to improve it, but also about the whole topic of this problem I think people have. And with that, I'm out.
