How to make a good build.

So I am almost level 30 (as of this post I need 1 XP to get to 30). I need to really learn to make good builds and I would like some tips on how you all do it. I know this is an odd question and all but I would love too have some conversation with other players. And please, if you guys post your builds and then you see another person's build, don't be rude if you think it is bad. I would love this post to be chill c:

Firstly, probuilds.net is a really helpful resource when you're picking a champ up early on. I recommend using it if you're ever unsure where to start.

Secondly, the most important thing in item builds is understanding the enemy's champs. Do you go for Frozen Heart, or do you go for Randuin's? If the enemy team has a Vayne, Xin Zhao and Shyvana, Frozen Heart is going to be ludicrously effective. If the enemy team has an AP Mid and Top, with only their ADC dealing physical damage, Randuin's is the way to go, because it gives just enough armor to prevent their ADC from eating you alive while still protecting you from the AP burst. One of the biggest ways you can inhibit your own growth as a player is by thinking in terms of 'Builds for this champion,' rather than in terms of 'Builds for this game.'

i recomend playin and making your own builds last season i had 150 games with vi (a little more but it does not make any diference) this season i have 68, im speaking aobut ranked games ofc

after such a time of playing vi i noticed that imy builds can vary hard from game to game

atm im jizzing oves secong item last whisper on her

but the truth is that you shouldnt get tips for building if you will learn how to pick items by yourself you will always build accordingly to your playstyle (the diference might picking banshe over locket )

Before I start, disclaimer: I'm only Silver V and only been playing since Dec 2013.

That said, My favorite champ is by far Quinn: she is really versatile, and because she isn't meta alot of the lower elo people I play with dont know how to deal with her kit.

Anyways, the biggest thing I have learned so far is cookie cutter builds only work if you are ahead. You NEED to adapt to the situation. Enemy team have 3 tanks? Welp better prioritize that BotRK over IE. Whole enemy team squishy but bursty? BT shield should help me survive. I spend the loading screen time looking at the champs and try to create 3 item builds in my head based on who gets fed so I don't have to figure it out in the fountain while the enemy takes that mid inhib.

That said, there are a few things that are ALMOST **NEVER ** a good idea:

  1. Boots first time back over AD/AP? Unless you can dodge every skillshot thrown at you (a statistical improbability) probably not the best idea. Execptions would be laning against that Thresh or Blitzcrank that arent leading the grabs.

2)AS over AD. Unless you are an stack based champ, like Vayne, Varus, Twitch, MAXING YOUR STACKS FIRST, AD is almost always more helpful. SS/PD over IE? Bad idea as an ADC. Sure you hit them more often, but you are just tickling them. A little AS may help you farm, but not as much as that shiny BF Sword.

TL:DR Know the champ you are playing and build for the match, not MOBAfire.

I typically use probuilds.net for reference and guidance on how a champion is played optimally, but it's important to understand why certain things are built on certain characters. Checking the wiki page for the champion also helps you understand why items are built on a champion (ie. what are their ratios like?). My champion pool actually has no overlap with yours, but I'll try to give examples on reasoning:

Twitch is an AA based ADC, and he doesn't really have any scalings on his abilities, which is why blade of the ruined king is a core item on him (it gives him more attack speed, allowing him to apply more stacks of his passive, the percent health damage with the passive allows his AAs to do more damage than another AD item, like bloodthirster, and the active helps him close distance or escape, since he has no dash ability). Youmuu's Ghostblade is also a good item on Twitch, similarly the active allows you to close distance or escape, and also gives you attack speed to apply more stacks of your passive. The CDR is also nice but not entirely necessary, but it does allow you to have your spells up more often, so you can cast expunge more often or your ult.

Compare this to a typical build on, say, Jinx. Jinx is also a largely AA based ADC with no dash ability, but she typically builds differently than Twitch. Jinx will usually build infinity edge and then phantom dancer or stattik shiv. This is because of a few things; she naturally gains attack speed with her minigun, and she has a ridiculous AD ratio on her W. Having higher base AD with her infinity edge allows her W do to a ton of damage, while also not harming her ability to deal good damage with auto attacks. Phantom Dancer/Stattik Shiv gives her attack speed and crit chance that she needs, which synergizes well with the extra crit damage and crit chance of infinity edge.

Well thank you for the end quote. I will take that into thinking. And I use Frozen Heart a lot. Mainly for characters who need a bit of mana and armor at the same time. What do I do if the game has only one person doing AP damage and the other champs are doing attack damage? Also, sorry if I am sounding very unformulated in putting a sentence together. I have a lack of sleep.
