Why Pyke?

I have been a support Pyke main in low gold basically since he came out. He was never super OP, but I learned to love his playstyle and currently I play him every game that I can. When solo lane Pyke got popular, I was happy that Pyke was seeing some more play but ultimately it didn't affect me as a support. When Riot nerfed Pyke, I tried playing him in the PBE and I realized how even though these nerfs were to solo lane Pyke, it greatly affected the way I play him as a support. I can no longer waveclear whatsoever so if a wave is crashing on the turret and my adc is returning from base I can't stop the wave from dealing loads of damage to bot turret (with the enemy bot duos help). In the late game, I used to like to split push a bit with my q+e but now I need a Hydra item to do that effectively. I was confused why Pyke was getting this harsh of a nerf considering that he was strong in solo lanes but not OP and he hasn't been good for as long as many other champs. Sure, Riot can lower his q+e damage a bit but getting rid of his aoe stab and completely taking out his e damage to minions just seems way to harsh. These are fundamental mechanics on Pyke that are being changed, not damage ratios. Pyke support players shouldn't have to deal with a nerf on an already B-tier support. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to get this off of my chest because as a Pyke main, this heavily discourages me from playing my champion and as a result discourages me from playing League.

Because Pyke features fantastic poke, all-ins, sustain, and roaming potential, they really wanted to give support Pyke an inherent weakness, on top of gutting solo lane Pyke. They killed two birds with one stone, essentially. By having zero wave clear, he forfeits lane control to the enemy team and depends on his ADC to keep the lane in the right spot.

They did compensate him with some nice buffs. A reduced cooldown on his Q is a big deal for his damage output and setting up kills early on, and having better W movement speed makes his roams more potent.

Perhaps one day they'll figure out that a kill hungry assassin makes for a very conflicted "support".
