Would you rather win with a bad 6-15 K/D ratio or lose with a 30-5 K/D ratio?

Would you rather win with a bad K/D or lose with a good K/D?

Is the point of this game to win the round, even if it means sacrificing a K/D ratio?

It seems like too many think the game is about getting kills. Do kills get you out of Bronze and into Silver? Get you from Gold and above?

Please discuss.

i say winning > kills

The reason I ask is I was just in an ARAM. I was Sion. We had both turrets and inhibitor down (all taken down by me, finished off with Sions after death ability). I was 6/7 kd at this point. Our 1st turret had maybe taken 2 hits from minions.. we were going to win this game...

But all my teammates were doing was complaining about me ks'ing and feeding.... it was like 36-20 team kd and we had inhibitor down. And all game. 'SION STOP!' 'Report this Sion' 'Why is this Sion so bad?'. Again, i was 6/7 with a good 15 assists at this point. I was going for a win. And they just continued on ' This Sion ' etc...

So I just stopped playing. And of course.. within 5 min, they had our inhibitor down... Then 'Wtf is with this Sion.' 'All report' blah blah blah.

The brains of some players.. I just don't get it. Are kids really this stupid? Do they think?

We had an easy win.. Would have won in 5 min easy at the point we were at until I just couldn't take all the complaining... about nothing. WE WERE STOMPING THEM.

Any professional player will tell you:

Your stats are not relative to your skill. They never have been, and they never will be.

Yes, the concept of the game is winning the match even if you have to take a beating to do so. A huge percentage of the players at the Gold level refuse to take a beating in order to win a trade, GENERALLY resulting in a game loss. It upsets the balance between the matches, giving one team an advantage that scales exponentially throughout the match.

Last I heard there was no team deathmatch mode, so a win is all that matters.

MPendragon11/12/2014, 4:56:44 AM2 votes

I agree completely.

By mere definition of the word 'carry' is to hold weight. If your ADC is free-farming lane minions while your team is brawling with the opponent, your ADC ain't carrying shit. In fact, in that particular scenario, your ADC is GETTING carried.

People have this obscured mentality that they are benefiting their team by refusing to participate with them. Whoever taught this ludicrous fantasy is a fucking idiot. And yes, I do mean a fucking idiot.

At any point in time where any one individual or multiple individuals on your team is contributing to more than what is expected of them, they are carrying you.

I think one of the things that has made me a better player is that I put SOME value on KD. Because of that, I have become a very opportunistic player and it's very rare that I lose lane or am a negative contributor to the team because I put a high value on staying alive. Even if I don't get a ton of kills, my gaming instincts make it so that I am naturally a safe (not necessarily passive) player, so I don't die very often and end up with good KD ratios more so from not dying and picking up kills here and there than just going for as many kills as I possibly can.

Let's put it like this. If I'm 30/5 but we're losing I'm probably frustrated. Mostly because I'm someone who understands that killing 2 or more champions in late game means you get to take an objective (Towers, Barons, etc) Which means I just killed 2 of them and my team isn't helping me move on these objectives.

Usually if I'm negative and we're still winning I'm playing in a way that isn't getting me caught up as much as it's just helping out our team. Like when I play Thresh. I might end up 2 or 3 levels behind because we didn't handle our lane well, but I'll plant that perfect ult and land that stun to help win the teamfight even though it put me in a sub-optimal position. I had to stand there to get that ult, and that ult got us 4 for 2.

I would prefer the losing game with the negative score please. I don't need numbers to tell me when my gameplay is meaningful and impactful.

What you do, is you win the game with a 6-15 KDR, but then have 33 assists because you're support Leona and can live a 5 man gank.

AloneInTheCrowd11/12/2014, 3:42:00 AM2 votes

Killing someone untill they ragequit = priceless .

accostrooms3511/12/2014, 3:43:53 AM2 votes

I would lose with a 30-5 KD ratio. Its just LP. :/

Llanite11/12/2014, 4:08:34 AM2 votes

If you go > 15 kills, you've been stealing it from the team. Half-competent team would blow all CD and boom, you go down the drain with half of the team gold.

MPendragon11/12/2014, 4:30:36 AM2 votes

Insinuating having a negative KDR is playing bad?

It generally means: 1: You're trying harder than the others. 2: You're the greatest threat on your team. 3: You're the primary initiator on your team, and because League of Legends is filled with strategic-less idiots, they focus fire down your initiator instead of your comrades who haven't used their abilities yet.

To be honest, to answer this question, you have to ask yourself: what is a carry?

Is a carry someone who does the most damage and wipes people off the map? No. A carry is someone who contributes immensely to winning the game. Whether it's that Jarvan with the flawless baron steal, that 0/5 Sona with the 5 man Crescendo, or the 36/0 Katarina that 1v5s and melts the team. It doesn't matter whether it's that Vayne who positions flawlessly and demolishes people, or that Thresh in the background setting up the lanterns, hooks, and flays. There's no difference between a carry who spends their gold on a Sightstone, and a carry who spends their gold on a Blade of the Ruined King.

KDA doesn't matter. Winning does.

To me, the jungler I respect the most is FNC Cyanide. He's willing to play the sacrificial lamb. He destroys the most wards, plants the most wards, dies a ton, gets very little kills. Most people below Silver would call that feeding. But honestly, Cyanide is one of the hardest carries in Fnatic. His KDA is atrocious, but he's still a fantastic carry. I'm sure most people would rather have Cyanide than a so-called "carry" like Reginald, who has a decent KDA but terrible decision making and mechanics.

warpenguin55511/12/2014, 8:30:06 PM1 votes

id take the win. losing with a KDA like that is just frustrating, its happened to me before.

Featherztorm11/12/2014, 12:38:29 AM1 votes

A win is a win. You don't see any sports teams complaining that they won 3-0 in a football game :D

NaCl Shaker11/12/2014, 12:39:43 AM1 votes

Can't go off of KD alone, have to include assists. Someone who is 6K 15D 0A is useless.

Someone with 6K 15D 30 assists is probably pretty useful, although they may have been able to die less.

More deaths = more gold to enemy team + more time dead = more ways that the enemy team can win

KDA both matters and doesn't matter at the same time.

You shouldn't intentionally be trying to raise your KDA, but you should be aiming to not die when you don't need to die.

The Queen Viper11/12/2014, 12:59:52 AM1 votes

It's KDA... but anyways, it depends, are you playing to win LP or to improve. In the long run, having a good KDA usually means you will end up with more wins.

And NO, this game is not about getting kills. This isn't CoD. If anything, this game is about not dying and getting objectives.

I'd prefer to win with a bad KD but good Assists. I usually play either Top lane or support, where not getting huge amounts of kills is rarely a problem. Though dying a lot for nothing is rarely fun

Wins > Kills

Diljic11/12/2014, 1:59:25 AM1 votes

How is this even a question? You are literally asking if someone would rather win or lose.

Sailor Mint11/12/2014, 2:04:45 AM1 votes

Either carry the game or put yourself in a position to get carried.

If you're 0/3 in lane and someone else is crushing their lanes, just jump aboard the train and don't get in their way.

GyjYa11/12/2014, 3:03:44 PM1 votes

I'd rather win with a 30-5. That means I did well, and am improving. Improving is why I play ranked.

Winning with 6-15 means I got carried. Being carried means I'm not improving. Not improving = BAD

SS Enforcer11/12/2014, 6:58:38 PM1 votes

Win. That's a no brainer.

AetherKingdom11/12/2014, 7:00:53 PM1 votes

I'd rather lose, I hate being carried

Matthevv11/12/2014, 7:09:27 PM1 votes

If I ever get double digit deaths I quit the game for a month. Unless its a 55+ minute game and you are the tank double digit deaths is just, wat.

Drunk Rummate11/12/2014, 7:22:21 PM1 votes

Depends on the type of kill/death/assists you're getting.

I don't think I've ever had more than 20 kills in a single game because when I fight it's usually with the goal of taking an objective and taking a big step towards winning the game. I don't walk into their jungle and fight someone 1v1 simply because I saw them walking there and wanted a kill. I'd much rather take their undefended turret while they derp around in the jungle.

So I guess my answer to your question is the latter. I like winning, I don't care about K/D/A as much.

360D3GR3SS11/12/2014, 12:29:28 AM1 votes

Depends on the conditions of the kills.
