Competitive Tier List

WARNING: WORK IN PROGRESS While this may seem extensive, it is simply my initial thoughts. I would love to get more peoples' ideas and thoughts regarding this competitive LoL tier list for each of the roles.

TOPLANE TIER LIST S-Tier Gnar, Irelia A-Tier Jarvan IV, Lissandra, Rumble, Maokai, Jax B-Tier Dr. Mundo, Alistar, Jayce, Kassadin, Kayle, Nidalee, Renekton C-Tier Aatrox, Azir, Fiora, Gragas, Katarina, Lee Sin, Malphite, Nasus, Poppy, Rengar, Riven, Shyvana, Tryndamere D-Tier Akali, Cho’Gath, Darius, Fizz, Gangplank, Hecarim, Kennen, Olaf, Rek’Sai, Ryze, Singed, Trundle, Urgot, Wukong, Yasuo, Yorick, Zac Warwick Shen F-Tier Diana, Galio, Garen, Kha’Zix, Lulu, Sion, Swain, Teemo, Udyr, Vladimir, Volibear, Zed Everyone Else Notes – For toplane, I have considered multiple factors, including competitive and solo queue viability. Besides that, results are key. If a champion is currently not showing success, I have not placed them too high. Champions that
Gnar – I placed Gnar in S-Tier because of his strong laning prowess, teleport gank potency, and versatility. While he might not have the most incredible statistics in solo queue, his offline presence at the EU and NA Expansion Tournaments, as well as IEM San Jose and Cologne has given him the highest regard on my tier list. Irelia – Similar to Gnar, the showing Irelia has had at offline events recently has skyrocketed her placement in my tier list. Jarvan IV – A surprise to some, Jarvan IV is one I believe to be vastly underrated as a top laner. While he does have mana issues in lane, his kill pressure and safety are still top tier. Along with being a flex pick which can be a huge advantage in champion select, his teleport ganks and ability to scale with high amounts of farm from the toplane are godlike. Lissandra – Another flex pick, Lissandra is a great addition to just about any team comp. She adds CC and engage, and has plenty of damage. The best quality she has is she’s an AP top, which opens up heavy AD in other lanes/the jungle. Rumble – Not quite as flexible as Lissandra, but still a really solid pick, who works in a variety of team comps. Not as reliant on items as other tops, Rumble is wonderful at 1v2 lanes and has great versatility for laneswap scenarios. Maokai – Recently knocked out of “god tier” by Irelia and Gnar, Maokai has been a rock in the toplane for quite some time. In the same realm of toplaners as Dr. Mundo, Alistar, and Shyvana, Maokai has never been a lane bully. However, his lategame prowess has held him as a strong teleport ganker and one of the best teamfighting toplaners in the game. Jax – A recent addition to high tier, Jax is undisputedly in the 99th percentile of duelists. This, along with high mid-lategame scaling and moderate teamfight capabilities, Jax deserves a place in A-Tier. Dr. Mundo – The best scaling toplaner with moderate laning presence, Dr. Mundo was at the top tier of toplaners for a long time. As Morellonomicon was effectively buffed to the god tier of midlane items, poor Dr. Mundo just can’t heal up nearly as easily. Alistar – Headbutt nerf hurt him hard, and along with the mana costs of his abilities, he just isn’t high tier material any longer. Jayce, Kayle, Renekton – The three up-and-comers that were all at one point S-Tier picks for either mid or top. Jayce and Kayle are both great flex picks, and all three of them are lane bullies with good teleport gank potential. Kayle is great because of the lvl 6-9 burst mage meta, and Jayce and Renekton are simply solid champions that have snuck their way back in, mostly due to popularity. Nidalee – Similar to jax, but not quite the teamfighter. Fewer lane counters, but less scaling/flexibility. Kassadin – Flex pick with great lategame scaling and teleport ganks. Relatively new to toplane, but especially against a lot of these AP tops (Rumble, Lissandra, etc), he does very well in lne. Aatrox, Gragas, Malphite, Shyvana – Solid picks in nearly every meta, these few have been underrated significantly. They’re by no means top tier picks, but they definitely do have their place in Plat-Diamond teamplay and the occasional Challenger Series match. Azir – This champion is simply too strong, and is a good flex pick. He’s not top tier in toplane, but he’s definitely playable. Fiora, Katarina, Poppy, Rengar, Riven, Tryndamere – All fantastic duelists when ahead, but risky. Mid-tier status will probably never change for these folks. All have probably the highest snowball potential, but will most likely never see competitive play because of the high risk involved. Lee Sin – Strong earlygame 1v1 potential. Decent teleport ganks, and good flex pick. Ideally a wonderful pick, but difficult to justify poor scaling. Nasus – Wonderful in most respects, except scaling. Better in the jungle. D-Tier – Most champions here are lacking something really damn important, or simply don’t have the laning presence necessary to be a viable pick. Some I considered to be higher tier would be Warwick, Shen, Akali, and Ryze. Rek’Sai is a hard one to judge, probably better in jungle. F-Tier – Most of these guys are either massively better in other positions, or are the bottom of the barrel. Can do well, but have large flaws.

JUNGLE TIER LIST S-Tier Jarvan IV Rek’Sai A-Tier Pantheon Nunu Hecarim Fiddlesticks Diana Lee Sin B-Tier Amumu Aatrox Karthus Kayle Maokai Rengar Sejuani Vi Wukong Xin Zhao Rammus C-Tier Akali Evelynn Gragas Jax Kha’Zix Master Yi Nasus Nocturne Shaco Trundle Yorick Zac Elise D-Tier Cho’Gath Darius Fiora Fizz Irelia Malphite Nautilus Olaf Riven Tryndamere Volibear Warwick Yasuo Zed Udyr F-Tier Alistar Dr. Mundo Gangplank Rumble Shen Shyvana Singed Sion Skarner Talon Everyone Else Notes – The preseason has changed the jungle immensely. However, this does not mean the strong junglers in late season 4 are not strong in season 5. Certain junglers such as Jarvan and Pantheon, in fact, have been buffed significantly because of these changes. The ability to clear is valued, but not nearly as highly as when combined with early ganking ability and some lategame scaling. This is, in essence, why junglers such as Lee Sin and Elise are not as contested, as they have abysmal scaling in comparison to the likes of Jarvan or Pantheon. Jarvan IV – In the preseason, it seems that Jarvan simply cannot be shut down in the new jungle. It’s hard to find flaws when he’s so dominant. I have my doubts about how long his reign will last, but right now it seems that with his ganking potential, item independency, and disgusting teamfight/initiation, no jungler can match Jarvan for usefulness. Rek’Sai – This overpowered piece of sh*t will soon get nerfed, mark my words. With massive amounts of mobility, sustain, utility, and damage, I just don’t see any weaknesses. She’s basically an easier, more powerful version of Lee Sin.
Pantheon – Ridiculous ganks, fast and safe clear, and versatility above most other junglers. Nunu – Massively underappreciated counter-jungling and objective control, especially now when Dragon is such a point of interest at the moment. While Nunu has weaknesses, none of them are terrible, and his benefits surely make up for them.
Hecarim – In my opinion, any meta that favors Jarvan has to include Hecarim as well. While sure he’ll probably never be quite as impactful, his lane ganking potential is only matched by the likes of Rammus and Nocturne. Solid enough early clear, followed by midgame clearing/pushing potential of legends. Fiddlesticks – Vastly underrated by many in the new jungle, Fiddle is a top-tier early clearer, with incredible ganks, and doesn’t fall off in clear speed nearly as much with Ranger’s Trailblazer.
Diana – Underrated probably even more than Fiddle in the preseason, Diana has been tested and proven her worth against the new meta of jungle camps. Notice, she is top tier, but her early ganking power is pitiful, barely better than Wukong. Lee Sin – The old king of the jungle has finally fallen (for now). Lee Sin is currently in a slump, simply because people aren’t playing him. My analysis shows that in times when the jungle meta is up in the air, Lee Sin falls out of favor slightly. This is because he is a very mechanically intensive champion; when players (especially pros) aren’t practicing him, he isn’t nearly as effective/popular. Amumu, Maokai, Sejuani – These 3 are generally in the same boat, bar buffs and nerfs. This is because CC tank junglers are very meta-dependent. They rely on other junglers not being able to put enough early pressure down to snowball the game. If the snowball doesn’t happen, CC tanks are huge powerhouses in the mid-lategame. Also, with the buffs to towers and nerfs to baron, I can easily see teamfight-oriented junglers coming back in a big way. Aatrox, Kayle – Great flex picks, and have enough item independence to survive with the low amounts of gold in the current jungle. Solid early duelists, good clear, and sufficient ganks. I have an inclination to say that these might be top-tier picks in the future, if the jungle doesn’t change away from their favor. Rengar, Vi, Wukong, Xin Zhao – All veterans of the jungle, all four of these champions can hold their own in some way or another. All of them have solid teamfight presence (Wukong and Xin Zhao especially), and all are top-tier in pick comps. While teamfighting may be the current meta, pick comps will never be completely counted out. Karthus – Unmatched clear, ridiculous scaling, and the ulti that can come out of nowhere and change the game. Also allows AD solo lanes. C-tier – mostly comprised of snowballing champs, these champions have either been heavily nerfed (Gragas, Kha’Zix, Shaco, etc.), or are assassins that require substantial early leads to be effective. D-tier – Most of these have either extremely slow clears, or are completely useless without a large early lead. Certain picks like Cho’Gath and Malphite can be extraordinarily strong against certain team comps, but most of the time they stay where they belong in D-Tier. F-Tier – Slow clears, bad scaling, risky jungling, take your pick. Most of these can’t make it past their first buff, let alone gank at all. They’re jungleable, but barely more so than someone like Morgana or Jinx.   MIDLANE TIER LIST S-Tier Orianna Azir Ahri A-Tier Lissandra LeBlanc Jayce Syndra B-Tier Cassiopeia Akali Ziggs Ezreal Viktor Zed C-Tier Karthus Fizz Kassadin Kayle Morgana Lux Twisted Fate Xerath D-Tier Brand Anivia Zilean Corki Jarvan IV Katarina Kennen Yasuo Annie F-Tier Janna Kha’Zix Lulu Malphite Malzahar Nidalee Talon Diana Karma Vladimir Everyone Else Notes – The midlane changes this season have come from three places. Firstly, the health and mana regeneration changes turned Morellonomicon into the go-to for those who previously used Athenes Unholy Grail. While Chalice/Athenes has been buffed since, this change has put Ability Power champions above other midlaners. Jayce and Ezreal as exceptions, but the poke meta is strong as well at the moment, which gives them a large edge, as they can excel in extended engagements. The second change I’d like to note is the “X per level” to “Growth Stat” change. This hit especially hard to AD mids, as midgame armor was buffed across the board. This tilts power in APs favor, and with Null-Magic Mantle and Negatron Cloak getting more difficult to get, Mages (especially those that have strong mid-game power spikes) have flourished in the current metagame. Not to mention the emphasis on teamfighting. Orianna – While Orianna has never been truly weak, She is at one of her strongest points right now. She has a wonderful power curve while never losing power, can farm effectively even in losing matchups, and has incredible teamfight presence. This, along with having strong levels 6-9 (which are very desired), gives her a place in the god tier. Her only downside is her lack of escapes, which is made up for slightly by her CC and shield. Azir – High mobility, CC, and damage, good laning, scaling, and utility. What else do you need? Oh, and he’s amazing in teamfights. Once players become mechanically proficient on Azir, he will be close to 100% pick/ban. Ahri – Ahri might be a surprise to most, but she is one of the most versatile mages in the game, contrary to popular belief. She has poke, pick potential, amazing teamfighting, can split-push (which is rare for a mage), and great mobility and CC. The aforementioned changes in the 4.20 patch helped her immensely. In fact, I could cite at least a few instances at IEM Jose and in the Expansion Tournament where an Ahri pick would have drastically increased chances of winning the game. Lissandra – Not quite god tier, but very strong. Perhaps in 4.20 she was god tier, but that was simply because pros weren’t quite as adept at fighting against her. She has solid laning, great versatility,

I stopped reading after I saw Cho'gath in tier D for top lane.

Nasus doesn't scale well?

I gave up on your list when I saw Sona rated higher than Taric, or rather that she wasn't placed in F-tier.

Not to mention the other lists. Zed b-tier? Sivir b-tier? Lee Sin not S-tier? Ya, let's not...
