Is League even fun anymore? The current Meta and general state of the game is downright awful

I've played since season 1. I've been through release Xin Zhao, Leblanc, AP Master Yi, the vision rework, The second Eve rework, League of Black Cleavers, the juggernaut update, One-shot Galio and so much more and I honestly don't think I have ever seen the game in such a bad state as it currently is. Can anyone honestly say that the current meta and state of the game is good and enjoyable to play? Turrets do nothing and die instantly, infact two deaths on lane will now also result in a dead turret maybe even two, Baron is a joke and gets melted, Herald is easier to kill than dragon, The overall damage output from all characters is way to damn high, and the roles... dear god the roles...

Toplane: Just cheese your way to victory and generally do nothing until the 20 minute mark at which point you will either push through top cause the enemy laner ran down mid/bot, or you will run down mid/bot yourself.

Midlane: Only characters with massive burst or high mobility allowed, preferably both. If you have neither then what the fuck are you even doing, get out.

Jungle: Unless you can out-duel the damage output of an assassin (AKA, characters that will now one-shot you at level 4) you might as well go afk cause you will lose every single scuttle which will snowball into the enemy jungler dominating the map and your team will flame you into oblivion.

ADC

Botlane 1: Pick Vlad. If he is banned then just pick a bruiser with CC and combo that with either another bruiser with CC or a mage who does not need items to scale such as Brand or Zyra.

Botlane 2/"Support": Pick Brand or Zyra.

Actual support: You have the choice of Soraka, Nami or Sona since they can midigate the oppressive damage coming out from whatever bruiser you are guaranteed to face.

Riot is strangling the life out of the game in favor of the LCS. League will be dead within two years if they continue on this path. The fact that they are now actually releasing trailers for the game again is proof that their numbers are going into the fucking toilet.

PS: While I am at it. Here are some fun blunders that I will add to shit on Riot some more:

We released a clearly unfinished rework that no one liked into the game cause we don't really care. Everyone who played him on the PBE told us not to do it... but that has never stopped us before. The PBE means nothing.

We want Galio to feel more like old Galio, so we made him into a burst mage... who can also tank. Thats what you wanted right?

We don't like how Nidalee can chunk people with her spears so we are moving her damage around some more, anyway here is a charater who chunks people and also has one of the strongest CC's in the game.

We are releasing a bunch of new items for ADC's to bring them back into the spotlight. Now excuse us as we nerf every other aspect of ADCs turning them into the laughing stock of the entire game.

We are making two new items for brui-... uhh... actually you know what nevermind...

We reworked LB cause her old kit was extreamly oppressive and toxic to play against only to then revert her to the exact same state.

We quite litterary gave a character 3 separate passives for no real reason.

We killed the lore and forgot to add a new one. Don't worry though, we will create small short stories along the way, none of which will meld together.

Venting feels good.

EDIT: This post gained a lot of attention, I am enjoying the discussion and different opinions from so many different people. I agree the focus in Lcs is too big, riot even made a choice shortening games by increasing damage out put. Does riot not realize league is not an FPS death match game. Seriously if people come to Lcs they want all 3 parts of the game. Late game is super favorable as it brings the unpredictable. Now it’s trashed of the table. After the so called release of Zoe we all know she was to op. The fact SHE IS THE FIRST champion to steal summoner spells is by self scary but then she’s a mage who can miss her abilities but still hurt you to half hp with auto attacks. There’s not even an item for mages like Doran’s shield to save you. In the pro scene they play flashy kits like if they cut the wrong wire the building will topple. As it happens so riot releases more flashy kits so actual plays can be made in the pro scene, where it will never happen since they only want to win for the money, even if it’s personal achievement they won’t risk since it’s for monkey and not general competition like our ranked system. Pro play pathches are a fail for the game since you loose you general audience.

Can we stop pretending that adcs are unplayable? Take any look at any stats website or any high elo streamer/pro game and you will quickly learn that this is completely untrue.

Iv been here since Season 2 and no the game is not fun. I want it to be but Ranked is nothing but a frustration machine. I play to relax with a little competition and pride myself on tactics and builds. There are no tactics that are not cheese and there are no builds that are not cookie cutter. Out of the 150+ champs there are maybe two dozen that are worth playing. We see most of those all the time. A lot of those are not fun to play (for me mainly because they are cheese and I hate winning because of cheese)

I so want Riot to change their direction on this damage BS and get back to ACTUAL Player skill but Im afraid they ether dont see the problem and it will be the death of it or they dont care and are milking the $$ knowing its dead already.

Yeah...not sure if I like that pre 8.11 the common speech here on the Boards was that botlane being always marksman was hurting the game and there were threads on the top of upvotes crying to gut adcs influence of the game and now that Botlane is <<open>> to others champs you guys use it as an argument to why ths game sucks.

(I said common speech because I know that even if not everyone was on that mood the majority of the Boards was)

Nope not fun at all... Easiest time I have ever had just not playing. I open the client and get a terrible feeling of disgust and flashbacks of how terrible it is right now, then close it lol.

So many issues with how fast turrets die, how fast champions die, and how rift/baron goes to whoever is ahead and basically ends the game immediately. Miss the days when all I had to complain about was terrible matchmaking which is still here. Made a good run for plat in 5s getting gold 1 a couple times, got it in 3s, but prob decayed by now.

I think the only people enjoying this meta are assassin and bruiser mains. Everybody else who mains a class that isn't entirely about damage is essentially shit out of luck right now.

One aspect that's been worrying me recently is that Riot's been putting a lot of work into making their game more of a spectator sport, but League is declining in Twitch viewership. It got surpassed by Fortnite, which isn't surprising considering that Fortnite is new and part of the battle royale fad, but at the time I'm writing this, they're also significantly behind CS:GO, a much older game that was always consistently far behind League. Coupled with an increasing number of pro players and content creators expressing apathy, frustration or resentment towards Riot, and either leaving or openly wishing to leave the scene as a result, this gives me the impression that League's viewership is declining, and so fairly rapidly. I can't talk about the player count, because Riot has hidden those figures for the past three years (I wonder why), and League's still in the top 3 most watched Twitch channels, so it's not all bad, but it's still far worse than it's ever been in the past, and doesn't seem to be getting better. Additionally, Riot keeps piling on so many updates that seem to go against the direction the general playerbase wants that it's becoming increasingly questionable whether they can catch back up, in addition to fixing the issues with League that do need solving. I'm worried about League, and I think there are clear signs that the game is experiencing problems at this point.

I've played for many years too and honestly, this meta is the least fun I have had with the game.

Riot keeps saying they want to make games shorter, but that means that half the champs are no longer viable. End game champs never get to the "end game" that they were designed around so the actual playable champion pool gets smaller. Then they say they want more assassins, so that means he who has the lowest pings wins, and then makes that champion pool even smaller.

The "champion balance" and "item balance" they keep pushing on the player base, which isn't really balance.

The direction they're taking isn't fun for the average league player.

Its trash. Literally stack health and 2 damage items and you outdamage everyone. No skill required, can burst champs in seconds when you dont even have much items, no skill, no strategy, no unique playstyles, trash trash trash. Cant wait for season 9 in hopes of Riot pulling their head out of their asses after seeing how low viewers will be on LCS this year. You dont get high viewers for an entertaining Championship game, you get viewers from a popular game. And if the playerbase keeps dying like it does, then say goodbye to league and your LCS.

there's always been people who hate patches and metas, but truthfully the game has never been SO BAD that an entire class is so unviable that they are BARELY chosen in Pro play where players will go with the safe reliable option

Riot thinks shortening the games will make them better to watch, and feel better for players, but LCS viewer count is actually declining, less people play the game now daily, in exchange for a damn monthly log in number that looks good to investors

the game IS DYING, its not dead, and it's still fixable, but they won't fix it, they will cash grab until there is no more cash and the game is unplayable for anyone who isn't 12 years old

I have been playing since Vi's release, today I started playing Battlerite I will likely still play lol over the Summer with my friends,unless we find another game to play together. Currently, the game just feels awful. Too much burst with high amounts of true damage.

People complain about towers... towers get nerfed. People complain about bruisers in the bot lane... Riot says "We do not want to push them completely out of the lane. People complain about lethality... no real communication on any plans on lethality nerfs. ( I do know Talon nerfs are coming, but I do not recall seeing anything on lethality nerfs). Lethality dominates the game right now. Look at OP,gg winrates... Highest winrates for each lane: Top is Quinn, lethality : Mid is Talon, and wukong, lethality : Jungle is Nocturne, Quinn, Talon, Wukong (all lethality) : ADC is Miss Fortune, Lethality

It is clear that this needs to be nerfed, yet Riot does not have any transparency about their plans. A problem with a meta like this needs to be solved BY the community helping Riot, and we can not help if they stay silent.

Gold funelling should be nerfed, Riot says "We are unsure when it will be nerfed, possibly in preseason" THAT IS 5 MONTHS AWAY

Don't forget how often they change the game now: there is no real reason to try and master more than a handful of champs since the game changes too often for the average human brain to keep track of it.

And while Riot does some cool stuff, they're currently hugging the game too tightly to realize it can't breathe... nor can it's players.

40% of the community mains the same kind of champions, but there's nothing wrong with them, said champions are perma picked/banned from bronze to challenger, but there's nothing wrong with them. Rengar Yasuo Riven Fizz MasterYi Zed Fiora Katarina Tryndamere EkkoKhazix you've got one or more than one of these in your 3 most played champions, you're part of the problem. Right now I just hope we're given the tools to preset custom games without certain champions, since riot will never balance the game. I just want to experience the league I used to enjoy with my friends.
