Balance is an absurd never-ending cycle.

I believe that their will never be a permanent, true balance in League of Legends.

Not because of an "incompetent" balancing team.

Not because of Esports

Not because of easily triggered players complaining about anything that triggers them.

But because of the sheer size of of the League community. No matter what changes are made, we will always very rapidly find the best and strongest strategy and incorporate it into the meta. That's why I think all the complaints about balance although valid, will never provide a truer balance. Imaging a sine graph, it oscillates between -1 and 1, but hits 0 every integer multiple of pi. That 0 value is true balance, and every value that is not zero is imbalance. This graph is a function of time, and the intervals between each zero value, for the sake of the argument, could be long and far between depending on the sine function. Sure after fixing one thing their is gonna be a short period where people flounder to find the next big OP, which is a form of balance in it's own. No one knows the most viable strategy so they have to play around in search of it.

So what's the point here? I suppose it's as simple as comparing it to the absurd, no matter what we do life is essentially meaningless, or trying to achieve balance is meaningless, but we continue on anyhow. Perhaps what has really dug into the player base is the fact that we don't get these big changes all that much anymore, the meta does not fluctuate every other patch or so in a major way, it changes very very slowly. ADC in 2k17 lul was a meme for a very short while, an since then it's been nothing but ADC's being the most abused meta for almost a year. Sure we had a brief resurgence of some tank meta, but nothing that blew out ADC right out of it.

I believe I owe it to Riot, I've played this game since Aatrox and I appreciate all the changes it went through, some bad, some good, but overall mostly towards a better game play experience, I appreciate the fact that they kept coming up with new, exciting champions, kits, abilities, items, map interactions, etc. But the fact that they slowed down in attacking meta strategies, I start to find dubious.

Their is a fine line the balance team has to walk. Change the game enough so that players don't get upset with the stagnant game play or meta, but also not to alienate players who put in hours of work and dedication into certain champions and not fear at risk of their champion becoming useless and all their work going to complete waste. Dumpstering champions just for the fact they had time in the spotlight is never the right approach, as much as some players have a stigma against them. However waiting too long and not acting especially when discontent feels really prevalent among even more known players in the community is also a mistake.

Riot is really walking the line here, and I have high hopes that they can ideally channel some power back into the solo lanes in the mid season, whilst not completely breaking bot lane but ensuring that it is not ADC in 2k17 LUL all over again. But in the end remember, their will never be a perfect balance and their will never be a point in time when people are not unhappy with the current state of the game, it's all about minimizing the damages and keep more people happy, then unhappy.

Thank you Riot for giving me such a wonderful game that I continue to want to play every day to improve in.

From, A top lane main.

I don't expect the game to be perfectly balanced. I suggest taking a look at this, despite being old, still relevant. The problem is not that the game isn't perfectly balanced or anything near it, it's that currently the point of balance in the sin graph somehow managed to get out of its +/- 1 domain entirely.
