Zyra - a new passive and ultimate

For Zyra to feel more satisfying to play she needs to embrace the fantasy that is already written in her lore_ "...[Zyra] and her kind dominated the Kumungu Jungle, using thorns and vines to consume any animal that set foot in their territory..."_ That sentence right there sums up what the Zyra fantasy should be. She is a champion who claims her zone and annihilates anything that comes within it. Her distinction from other champions should be she is very strong within her concentrated zone, and irrelevant outside of it.
Some ideas to make this fantasy come to life in Zyra's kit:
-
Give Zyra a new Rise of the Thorns passive which allows her to claim a turret and envelop the area around it in a thicket of thorns which would slow and damage enemy champions and minions walking through it. This gives Zyra a clear identity as the champion you do not tower dive.
-
Once Zyra has leveled up Stranglethorns her plant's basic attacks apply a mark to enemy champions that can fall off after x seconds, Zyra's own basic attacks can refresh these marks but not add another one. Once a champion has accumulated x marks Strangethorns will be selectable (like Last Breath or Soul Shackles) and once cast, instead of a knock up, Stranglethorns reaches out and (actually strangles) all enemy champions within x distance who have been marked with x number of marks and pulls them toward the center of the ability. This would force Zyra's to be smarter about when and how to use their ultimate. It could be devastating to the enemy team if you pulled half of them under your tower into the Thorns but it could be devastating to your team if you used it without thinking in a teamfight and pulled the enemy Darius into the center of your team out in the open.
What issue bothers you the most when playing them?

The plant AI is incredibly frustrating in that a lot of the time, especially when using one of Zyra's skins, the AI won't attack anything especially an enemy champion within their zone.
-
Grasping Roots has always been problematic. If the active were any longer it would be OP since it roots everything hit, but since Zyra is rooted while casting it isn't worth casting defensively. Also the Vinelashers are so weak compared to Thornspitters it feels like a waste of a seed.

Rampant Growth has never felt satisfying. The passive cooldown reduction is just invisible power and the vision it gives isn't substantial enough. Instead of CDR there should be a stronger benefit for not turning a seed into Thornspitter/Vinelasher, such as if it is cast in brush it grows over time and provides more vision.
