I'm Cancer. Why? What did I do so wrong?

Ok, I played a ranked. While banning was happening, I called support. Even said preferred, not demanding. I went on and on about how i wanted to play Braum "The Manly Man's Man". I waited a little while before i actually locked in to let the team discuss positions and such. Asked them to in fact. No one responds. So, i cycle a few champs, then click Braum and lock in. At the same time the other person locks Nami and yells "WTF MAN?". We only have one more pick, and thankfully they pick adc, but now I am forced to go top as Braum. Possible, but tough, especially since I SUPPORT Braum.

You can see where this goes. I made Sion work for every inch of top, even killed him as he first blooded me. No support from the jungle all game, though they counter jungled pretty well. I went 3/6/13. Not too bad for first time Braum Top in a ranked game.

We lost. Coulda been won, but a few mistakes and we lost. Afterwards, my team asks for everyone to report me. To further this, my mid, Annie, tells me that I am cancer. I fucked the game. I was the only one.

So, here I am in the forums, where this will probably never get read, asking one question: What did I do SO BAD that warranted being told I'm "CANCER"? I'm sure i wont get any responses on here, but if someone could clarify why I'm such a terrible person, that would be fantastic...

TL;DR: Was forced to Braum top instead of support as him, went 3/6/13, made the enemy top work for every inch, and when we lost after a helluva fight, my team asked everyone to report, then my mid said I was "Cancer". So, why? What did I do so wrong?

Judging by the tone of OP, he seems more like Taurus.

Sounds like bad sportsmanship from the losers more than anything else. I see this happen often sadly where a lack of communication in the beginning causes bad blood throughout the game. In the tribunal this would not be taken seriously at all so I wouldn't worry about it too much. In fact if you reported the annie, that player is more likely to be punished. It’s just one bad game though, hope for better ones in the future :)

report nami for refusing to communicate report annie for negative attitude leave the lobby and move on with your life, you did nothing wrong.

Cycling champions in ranked is a waste of everyone's time and will typically be the only way misunderstandings can happen. If you were ahead of the Nami in pick order than you should've picked Braum, locked it, and called it a day.

If you were not ahead of Nami in the pick order, you should have tried to communicate better and more clearly in figuring out where they were going.

At the end of the day, you make it sound like you cycled champions and then last second (along with the Nami) locked in a support. That is a poor way to start off a ranked game, so it makes sense that somebody is going to be toxic towards you when you did something foolish that cost the team the game before the game even started.

Seriously, communicate, be clear, and respect pick order. You can never go wrong in pre-game if you (and everyone else) abides by those simple rules.

People are jerks in this game. More news at 11. Seriously though, don't let it get to you. If anything you should've reported them for that.

You're dealing with a community with ages ranging from 10-young adults, you can only expect so much maturity in every game. Here's a few points on why you are considered cancerous:

  1. You're on the internet, people over-exaggerate everything. People will troll you just because.

  2. You probably said something harsh back to them when they tried to call you out even though they were in the wrong(this links in to point #1).

  3. You're asking for people to admit that they're wrong, good luck. People naturally try to justify their good and poor decisions, it's just part of the human psyche.

People are incredibly insensitive and don't give a shit who you are when they're behind a computer screen with a sense of anonymity.

Are you new to league? This game has the most toxic community I've ever played with. EVEN if you do well in a match, someone will more than likely blame you for some stupid shit they did. You just have to get used to it especially if you are playing ranked.

You did nothing wrong. Welcome to real life; you are not always rewarded, and you are not always going to be working with competent team members.

Sukishoo2/4/2015, 10:34:46 PM1 votes

People are so stupid. Cancer is a serious disease, and they should really stop and think about what they say as that's something that doesn't relate to what a person is.

LuluInWonderland2/5/2015, 4:31:11 AM1 votes

I wish we had more details. I doubt (albeit having no way to confirm it) that the sole reason for people saying the OP was toxic was because of the misunderstanding. I'm guessing conversations continued past that point and went very negative. If so, then the mistake/miscommunication/whatever in champion select doesn't really matter. What matters is the attitude, actions, etc. that occurred throughout the rest of the match. If that wasn't an issue, then it sounds like the annie and support likely queued together and are just butthurt. Report and move on...not much else you can do.

In terms of the champion select issue, I'm assuming both players were picking their champs at the same time. If not, then pick order trumps anything else. If so, then the cycling of the champs may have confused the nami player, especially if the cycled champs were not supports. Or maybe nami wasn't paying attention or was just being a @#$%. While a mistake (or just bad), it's nothing reportable and you just have to take it in stride to make the best match you can to win.

So someone insulted you...for no good reason...on the internet...

That's...new...

Nami $@%& the bed. What do you want from us? Some people are &@#%ing dumb.

NoMonku2/5/2015, 9:59:01 AM1 votes

To me you haven't done anything wrong. From what you said, you did EVERYTHING you possibly could to communicate with your team, but they didn't respond. They only complained AFTER you made an effort to communicate with them and after the choice was made. It is THEIR fault for not giving you any feedback, which is NOT your fault. If they choose not to respond/communicate with you, you can't cooperate with them really since you're basically talking to nothing.

As for Annie calling you CANCER, not much you can do about it. Sounds more like a baddie who is blaming you for losing the game. I mean, you could have made a bad play to throw the game and lose it, but it doesn't warrant you being called that. Just ignore it and realize in most cases, the people who yell these obscenities at you are very immature people that are mostly ALL the things that they are calling you or others. If you're a "baddie" they are just as bad because they are playing in the SAME game as you :). If they call you CANCER, to me they are just the same because they are something that should be removed from the game for their negative impact on others. Just do your best to ignore them and it will get better.

If you're actually telling the whole story, then your teammate's rage was unwarranted, and you shouldn't worry about it. No use getting upset over friendless troll virgins. I generally try not to lock in right away, and cycling through different champs might have been a source of confusion. But it's hard to blame you, considering you called it in chat.

It Is I Emoto2/4/2015, 5:14:48 PM1 votes

Sounds like you and Nami were at the same time of picking champions. If she didn't responded in first place that she wanted to support, it was her fault entirely. You should not take that what they've said too serious, after all you tried your best after being forced to top with Braum, wich is in my opinion very honorable. Bad teamfights happen, and it's alright. This Annie had no right to blame you Cancer for trying to adapt to an new role while you were forced to. All I can say is that you've did the right decision and that you were probably the only person who did the right thing in that situation.

Izbiz2/4/2015, 5:47:10 PM1 votes

Not that you are in the wrong AT ALL, but it helps if you don't cycle through. Especially since chat seems to be broken quite often and people can't read what you're posting.

If you selected Braum right away (and didn't lock), then there's no way for a miscommunication.

Focus Teemo2/4/2015, 6:29:11 PM1 votes

If there's one thing i hate its people who don't communicate in the pre-game lobby. How am i supposed to know you picked Vayne top unless you tell me? Logically you have to assume certain champs go to their usual places. If they aren't calling or even telling people what they're doing its THERE fault. Simple as that.

Spacesuit Spiff2/4/2015, 8:00:37 PM1 votes

Why do you even need to ask? This community is full of idiots.

Reason some people get so upset about this is they want to think they're in control. When they see a teammate doing something they don't like, they realize they aren't in control and get weird.

And yeah, that Nami is the sort of thing I would just dodge. It's worse to go in game as Braum top IMO, especially since you can be fairly sure your Nami is an idiot. Worst one I saw was the silently first pick Dinger, who took smite at the last moment and threw a fit when he realized we already had a jungler. Proceeded to steal my camps for 20 mins while raging at me for being a bad jungler @_@

Regulas2/4/2015, 9:22:24 PM1 votes

In general people like having someone to blame. Once they decide somebody is the problem they tend to continue to focus on that person no matter what actually occurs as it let's them feel that the loss is outside their control and thus becomes more acceptable.

Nuggish2/4/2015, 10:31:26 PM1 votes

Your team let you down. They should be reported for not communicating. End of story.
