A New IP Funnel
With Runes being free at the end of the season with the revamped "Runes Reforged", that takes away a huge location for spending IP. At current I only have like 13 or so champions left to buy, after that I'll have nothing to spend my IP on other than the random IP Chroma sales which I can't participate in because I don't own most of those skins anyways.
So, what other avenue could players throw their IP at? I'm thinking something along the lines of "Skin Tokens". In the shop there are Champion Tokens for 1700 IP each, 3 tokens gets you a random champion you don't own yet (5100 IP in total), so after I own every champion this avenue is going to be closed off too. The alternative to this would be Skin Tokens that work roughly the same way.
Skin Tokens would work similar to the Mystery Chest system where there would be a tier system, but would give skins through IP. This tier system would work as:
- Have varying types of tokens to separate the tier of skin you're going for.
- Combine X amount of single tier tokens for X tier skin. (lower tier token, lower tier skin)
Mystery Chests had 2 types of skin chests which were the full random which costed 490RP and the higher tier random (I don't remember the cost)RP which costed more but guaranteed a 975 or higher RP tier skin. For Tokens, there would be Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Ghost tokens. Bronze: Combine x number of tokens for a random 520 or lower shop skin. Silver: Combine x number of tokens for a random 520 or 750 shop skin. (removes 390 skins) Gold: Combine x number of tokens for a random 750 or 975 shop skin. (removes 520 and lower skins) Ghost: Combine x number of tokens for random 975, 1350, or Legacy skin. (removes 750 and lower skins) As you may notice, this would not allow players to get 1820 or higher skins as well as special non-legacy skins (Medieval Twitch, Hextech Annie, Battlecast Prime Cho'Gath, DJ Sona, etc) so Riot would still get profit regarding those type of skins.
Bronze would obviously cost the least amount of IP with Ghost obviously costing the most. However, the tokens would have to cost a good chunk of IP each because these are skins after all which will still make using RP far more convenient for players, giving us incentives to still do that over just doing this instead for basically free skins. I'm thinking something like_** Bronze Skin Tokens 3000 IP each, Silver Skin Tokens 4000 IP each, Gold Skin Tokens 5500 IP each, Ghost Skin Tokens 8000 IP each._ It would take at least 3+ Tokens to get the random skin, making the totals at 3 tokens per skin _9000 (Bronze), 12000 (Silver), 16500 (Gold), 24000 (Ghost) IP**_. These are big numbers, but again these are essentially free skins so to keep RP being profit for Riot these need big numbers to persuade players to still buy RP for convenience.
