Riot staffed by monkeys?
Okay so in the past few months Riot has been making some severely questionable changes to the game and while some of them are good, personally I really enjoy the tank meta as it makes a whole bunch of champions playable, other than the typical Lee Sin and LeBlancs etc. But a lot of the changes are... questionable to say the least.
The thing that's annoyed me most in the recent weeks are the upcoming changes to the AP items. The nerfs to the high AP items, Zhonya's and Luden's is a disgusting nerf to so many champions that it feels as though 90% of AP mids are just going to be completely useless. I can understand buffing the AP items that no one really buys to make the itemisation for mid laners much more diverse, but since the majority of mid laners just want to do damage it's no wonder why they are building the three 120 ap items. Assassins and burst mages want to blow up squishies as quickly as possible, so building all the damage items is obvious. Poke mages want their poke to hurt as much as possible, so they build a lot of AP.
A lot of these utility based items like Rylai's and Liandry's have so many issues of their own that they're not worth buying on very many champions. For example, no one needs to buy Rylai's when most champions already have a slow on one or more of their main damage spells or their cooldowns are too long to take advantage of the slowed enemy.
I am calling it now, Vel'Koz is going to become a top tier pick if these changes go through, as he does not hugely rely on items, more-so the base damage on his abilities and his passive.
And so many champions that are already not particularly great are going to fall off completely. Again R.I.P. Veigar, now not only are you going to have less AP for your abilities, but your enemies won't have as much AP for you to burst them down with.
Honestly how difficult is it for Riot to realise that if they want to add more diversity to items on AP champs then they need to sit down and look at the weaknesses of certain classes of champions and make items that offset some of these weaknesses but don't necessarily offer them huge damage. For example. What if they looked at champs such as Vel'Koz, Veigar and Karthus and said, "The main problem for these champions is the fact they are hugely immobile and enemies can usually get on top of and kill them very easily, so to give them an option against this, we make an item that gives only 50ap, but upon activation grants a huge burst of movement speed! This way players can make the choice, do they want raw damage or safety?" as opposed to, "Needlessly large rod items too strong. We must nerf them and buff other items that nobody buys and I'm sure everyone will be happy!"
Another recent update to League of Legends is the addition of Runeglaive. For some reason the people at Riot think that ap junglers are bad junglers, because the old Magus enchantment just wasn't very good. This is complete bullshit. The Magus enchantment was just fine, the problem was so few champions were designed to be both ap and a jungler. Nidalee and Fiddle were in all honesty the only two and the new Runeglaive has butchered one of the two. Well done Riot. In fact, the champion to use this item the most is not even a jungler...
The saddest part about all of this is the fact Riot never admits they've made a mistake and once something's hit live, they don't revert a change. They just nerf or buff something to stop people whining about it.
These are only small issues I'm having with the game at the moment. The biggest problem I'm having with Riot, as a company, is the way they treat their players. It seems as though they just flat out, don't care. An obvious example of this is despite the large amount of players that enjoyed URF, it is only a game mode that comes out once a year. If Riot cared for it's players it would say, "Hey guys! We heard you enjoyed our new URF game mode so it's here to stay! :D"
Infact when I look at other MOBAs it seems as though Riot is the company that cares the least about solving ongoing problems that people are having. For example, when is Riot going to be more generous with people losing LP in ranked games for afks and trolls. Why is there no option where players can send a report to the tribunal and get their loss prevented when they may have played amazingly, yet due to an afk they ended up losing. And while people may argue with me and say League is a team game, you only play with your team mates once, while you will be in every game you play in your League career. ELO Hell most certainly does exist for the select few who go game after game performing well, yet getting trolls and afks, yet can't do anything about it because Riot doesn't help these people.
Not to mention the huge roster of champions in the game who are very weak and a lot of the time, also very boring, in comparison to all of the newer champions. For example, what is the point of playing Miss Fortune? What does she offer that no other adc brings to the table? A channel ult that deals magic damage? She brings that, but it's definitely not something to boast about.
It seems as though every time someone has a problem Riot just completely ignores it, but come out with yet another new champion instead. Which just proves Riot is a lot more about the money they make as opposed to having a happy fan base.
This is a problem I've had with Riot for a long time. They much prefer to balance 'OP champs' that get played in the lcs than buff the champions that don't. And they also refuse to tweak champions that give people in lower ELO a really difficult time and yes, while some champs that dominate bronze are awful in higher elos, surely these are the champions that should be put at the top of Riot's list of champs to re work. It is just so blindingly obvious that Riot really doesn't care about the players, only about the pro scene and the money they make. I am getting really sick of constantly seeing this and am finding it harder and harder to enjoy the game I once loved.
