Riot has lost their passion, and it's time for someone else to take their place.
Nearly a decade ago, a couple of people involved with Dota saw the possibility of creating a Moba that could be even more fun for people to play. They set out to create a game even better, and, in mine and many others opinions, did so. They worked with and listened to their quickly growing fans, and we had a lot of fun for several years. A community was developed, and players were enjoying themselves messing around, meeting people, and having a good time.
Then they lost their soul. My goal here is not to speculate whether that was because of the Tencent purchase, LCS focus, cash grabbing, or simply the nature of a company that gets too big for its customers to matter. I don't really care why, I only want the fun game I enjoyed for years back.
Today, it is obvious that Riot is not at all concerned with what their dedicated fanbase actually wants. The game has stripped away the depth of strategy that made it fun and became a generic button mashing fighter. Chat is avoided for fear of getting banned, or used by people that don't care about bans to flame people. I can't remember the last time I had fun using the chat feature with playful banter. Champion design is meaningless, as you just smash the buttons and the enemy either blows up, or you do.
The solution is to do just what this game did in its inception. Some of the current people working on this game need to see that this company has lost what made it great and that it no longer desires to create something enjoyable for its fans, and go out and do it better. The free market is wonderful place where those with incentive and good ideas can always shine. I know there are some of you in this company that understand what Riot has done is wrong, and you know you can do it better.
So let me be the first to formally encourage you. When you break off and make a game with a soul, vitality, and fun, I'll be there to support you. You would be surprised about how many others would follow suit. Quality always rises to the top. Please, I'm asking you, go make a game that we can love and get behind again.
