The meta and viability shift across ELO's

This is my view. Lets open by making this clear. When we discuss balance on gameplay it frequently seems like something that's true at 1 mmr is treated like it should or does remain accurate for every other mmr. I feel that's an error and it creates a lot of player to player frustration in communication, and leads to a lot of the Elo Shaming we see on boards.

Next, I'm trying to promote discussions where players can disagree and not be punished for being in a minority opinion. That we reach a point where hey its fine to agree to disagree. For this to work its up to you guys, Please avoid down voting posts for disagreement, downvote the hell out of low effort. I would love to see folks take a further step and look for posts that share your view accurately and instead of a reply to me, reply in that post or if you disagree, do the same. I will make an effort to be impartial or show my biases, please call me out if I fail on that (I'm not great at it.) If you don't want to participate like this, that's ok, I would appreciate it then if you just used the poll provided to show your opinion rather then comment unless you take issue with something I said, at which point directly address me in your post and I will make the effort to respond directly back.

So some issues I see with treating all MMR as if it has same gameplay meta and viability.

  1. It disregards champion skill caps. Look to Ryze and Azir, done well and with teamwork they are very strong, with out that they struggle. Its good to buff and nerf outliers in any individual division if they are being problematic. If you disagree with my example champs, treat it as a hypothetical, If you can mental replace them with a champion you feel is high skill cap that would struggle in lower skill environments just do that.

  2. It turns pro play into the new Mobafire. I adhere to, if you want to improve at lol, don't copy and paste a guide or some one elses playstyle, focus on what your good at, build your personal style of gameplay that results in consistent wins for you, then look to improve that. The harder you try to mimic something accurately the less flexibility you end up with, I think that limits players. This point is very much my opinion.

  3. Elo vs Elo, You know or observe something, a different MMR does not experience the same issue, using Azir as an example, this is hypothetical and not to be taken as a literal example. Diamond player, Fk Azir way to strong! I see him do well, he is OP. Bronze, WTF azir is trash I never see him do well. he is UP. Both statements can be true despite the fact they seem to directly contradict, more so when you add in that this is just an opinion both have and might not be that accurate to the reality.

  4. The game does not play out the same way over various MMRs. Look to a pro match, look to your own games, Do you see the same level of game flow and mechanics? If no, Now take a moment, pick a Silver or Plat player, whoever's the farthest away from your division and spectate them. Do you see the same game flow and mechanics compared to what your playing? (don't spectate a smurf as, they will not be providing a realistic example of that mmr.) I feel this way because a lot of the advice I used to give to my Lower elo friends, is not helpful or accurate. Things I take for granted are not a consistent part of the game for them. My buddy whos a lee sin 1 trick diamond player? His advice to me when I wanted to improve on jungleing was at times inaccurate. Also, I'm a trash lee sin.

  5. The misconception This is true for me, so its true for you. When interacting, try to keep in mind the other persons perspective. A player with higher or lower skill does not share the same experience you would in their shoes. Lets go with a shoe metaphor. Person A thinks shoe size 10 is to large, Person B feet thinks they are great, C thinks shoes size 10 are terrible, way to small, don't even fit. All 3 stand there bickering about the shoes. I dont think a single person using the boards would struggle If we made this into elementary school styled homework question, "Which person do you think has closes to size 10 feet?" Its self evident. When I Apply the same logical consideration to arguments between various elo players, I find it to be self evident on why they disagree and bicker over their personal experiances, you might not and that's ok.
