Adaptive Damage and Camille's Passive Shield

I've been scouring the internet/boards for clarity on this topic and haven't yet found the answers I seek. I was talking about Camille with a fellow player and expressed my confusion over Camille's passive, asking "how does the game know which damage type Camille's shield will take when it procs?"

quote from her official champ bio: "Camille's basic attacks on champions grant a shield against her opponent's primary damage type. The shield's strength increases based on Camille's max HP."

"Primary damage type" is the key here. Is that a simple variable assigned to a champ when they are created? If so, what about hybrid champs? Does it have to do with cumulative damage dealt in a game so far? That doesn't seem very likely. Is the shield type determined by the enemy champion's current adaptive damage metric?

Speaking of adaptive damage, how is that calculated? I haven't seen any concrete formulas, but most people seem to think this is based exclusively on a champion's build...but the adaptive damage type indicator must be decided before items are built, meaning it has to do with the champion's current stats. Which stats are included in the calculation?

Does Camille's shield read a champion's current adaptive damage type? Is it reading some other metric separate from adaptive damage type? Are these answers intentionally kept secret? Have I stumbled upon something greater than myself?

It’s actually pretty simple. The shield is based solely on total AD/AP of the enemy champion. So for instance, xerath has a higher total AP than AD at lvl 1. But if you build long sword start for some bullshit reason, then you’ll have a higher AD total. Which means that her shield will adapt to physical damage. Akali is an amazing champ to test this on with a friend, as she builds both ad and ap. You can experiment and easily find out the same thing I have as far as how the game determines shield type.

IIRC the game tracks what items a champion is building and what damage type they are most likely to put out based on their items/kit and gives Camille her shield based on that.

For example, Corki builds AD items but deals 80% of his damage as magic damage. Camille will get a magic shield against him.

On the other hand, Kai'Sa builds hybrid items but if most of her damage is going to be magic (IE through buying Nashors etc.), Camille will get a magic shield against her. If most of her damage is leaning towards physical (through Stormrazor etc.), she will get the physical shield.

The game probably checks the stats of the attacker.

More AP than AD -> Magic Shield More AD than AP -> Physical Shield

actually it is based on what is the type of damage that the champion did most during the game (physical damage if it didn't deal any damage)

so even if an AP champion is building AD as long as it's dealing more phisycal than magic damage the shield will be AD,same for an AD dealing AP damage (eg. Corki)

250 ad and 250 ap isnt the same since base ad is for example 80 and ap is 0 so in that situation ap wins the situation but if the AD is 260 and ap stays at 250 then you would get the armor shield, simple as that hope that clears stuff up
