Concern and Suggestion Regarding Maokai's W Change

As someone who loves Maokai, I'm concerned that the change to his W gives him way too much if a handicap.

As such, I'd like to offer another possible way to change it so he doesn't have to suffer as much from it.

1. What if he moved not as slowly, but didn't snare right when he arrived? It could be tied to his auto-attack, so that his next auto-attack after using the ability would snare the target?

2. Or it could be changed to work like Vlad Pool, removing the point-and-click and making it a mobility spell that would give opponents the ability to actually kite or juke it?

3. And lastly, this is my best idea so far: If Riot doesn't want to make it a mobility spell, have it function like a skillshot like Zyra's E that travels through the ground; if the skillshot hits an enemy, it pulls him through the roots underground to them and snares them. This would feel really cool thematically too! I understand that it might require a lot more resources art-wise than is feasible at this point in the rework, but if it's at all possible I think this would be the coolest way to change the ability.
