Funny but "impractical" picks: AP Kha'zix

Khazix is one of those picks not expected to come with this type of stuff since it is well known that his kit is mostly designed for AD itemization. so, why should someone make a mage out of league's favorite nerfed bug?

for the funny of experimenting with if of course, and because it sounds crazy enough to work. having making an analisis of his mechanics and the current state of AP itemization along with the new masteries i have theorycrafted and tested the Void Reaver to bots and in PvP to see how much i could get out of him.

the results were mostly interesting. like in many off meta picks (like AD Malzahar ) he may find some issues regarding the enemy stacking resistances. but most of the time you will have open field to apply all your damage without much effort.

so. how does this even work? well:

**know your magic damage grasshopper: **

in order to start playing this one has to take in account his kit. starting with his passive. Unseen Threat is activated every time you get out of the enemy's FOV and can be activated without any cooldown between uses, only limited to how fast you can get lost from sight.

it has a base damage that scales as you level up, but it also has a +50% AP scaling. meaning that you do half of your AP on your next basic attack in form of magic damage of course, be it by having gone out of your enemy's FOV, entering a bush or using your R.

then comes the R, on its normal form Void Assault can be used two times but evolving it allows for a third time along with double stealth time. after activating it you have an inner cooldown of 2 seconds to enter on stealth again before the total cycle ends.

that's it, you can proc your passive 3 times in a row, and more if you can make use of the terrain as advantage. but there's more to it.

his W has a base amount of healing that can by increased with a +50% AP scaling. this means that not only you do half of your AP as damage when hitting the enemy, but also by using your W, you can heal for that amount too. very hand when farming and during battle. since its also an offensive spell.

the rest of his kit in this case is for utility, low mana and cooldown on his Q means easy last hits or procs for spellblade items. his E can be used to either engage or escape. same as his ult.

depending on what you want to do you may want to invest an evolution point on either Q or E, but W and R are a must for the AP build.

knowing that we can move onto the next point.

a mantis in the library:

with a 50% AP scaling, Khazix is not really designed to be a prosperous mage. but there are many mages and magic based assasins in league that have slight better, and even worse scaling on their skills. our base example on this will be leagues favorite arachnid lady Elise , due to her scalings and base damage, she is mostly built with penetration in mind, using items like item 3151 to terrorize her oponents.

we will do the same in this case, an aditional point is, dont worry about mana items. you wont be spamming spells to much actually. so you are free to invest in pure damage and some defenses without worrying about getting oom.

build a, lane K6:

starting items item 1056 , item 2033 (you want both)

essential items item 3151 , item 3100 , item 3020

defensive items item 3157 , item 3001 and maybe item 3026

situational item 3135 , item 3027 , item 3285 and item 3089

build b, jungler K6:

starting items same as any jungler

essential items item 1402 (the enchantment mostly), item 3020 , item 3100

defensive items item 3157 , item 3001 and maybe item 3026

situational item 3135 , item 3027 , item 3285 , item 3151 and item 3089

note that i dont include item 3116 on the list. why?, because he has two ways to slow targets. both his passive and his W have a slowing effect. meaning that Liandry's Torment will always apply its double damage effect. however. if you feel like adding more slows to his kit. you may want to add that as item of choice. its not really a nuissance.

oh, and spending some gold in item 2139 may come handy, specially for the true damage effect.

this ends our talk about itemization which moves us to the next.

runes for bugs:

nothing much to talk about here, add runes as you see fit, i use a general AP rune page for all my AP based champions. its mostly related to spending seals for armor, glyphs for magic resistance with marks for plain AP and quints of AP per lvl.

you are free to go with runes as you see fit. but i would favor having some defense on the mix. the next part of this post is.

thundering beetle:

the name says it all. for this build i focused originally on the Ferocity tree. but having only magic penetration and a DoT effect on him wasnt really giving me results. so i changed to Cunning.

there's not much to say about it. increased elixirs, more damage against minions and monsters, additional damage to champions under 40% of their health. hibrid penetration per lvl which allows his AD spells to make some damage on the enemies and Thunderlord of course. turns out Thunderlord is the perfect Keystone on this case.

so, what else is left to know about this? this.

**mastering the insec(t): **(nothing related to LeeSin really, did it for the pun, yeah is that bad)

the main thing to know in order to master the use of AP Khazix is that his damage is reliant on being unseen by his enemies. before lvl 6 the bushes are your best friend in the rift. as you can come out, proc your passive and enter again.

think like Rengar basically, and if you want to play like the cat you can also make use of your E which has quite the range right now proccing your passive along with thunderlord and the rest of your kit will do several damage to the unsuspectfull enemies.

once you reach lvl 6, you want to evolve the R first, and the W second. you may still rely on the bushes to further proc the passive. but during trades the R is your main damage source. know your enemy, positioning is vital, specially against oponents with in built CC on their spells.

if you go lane, try to farm until you have your first penetration item. if you get a squishy oponent make sure to dodge his spells and go for it if you are sure you can survive the aftermath. keep an summoner 14 if the enemy gets to escape as an executing tool.

however, if you get against a tanky oponent, make yourself secure and try to farm as much as you can. there are certain special cases like Nasus which is so reliant on his farm that will try to stay on lane as much as he can. you can take that as advantage and annoy him with the bushes technique. but there are also cases like DrMundo who will require you to ely on your jungler in order to survive the ordeal.

in the end, the worst that can happen isnt dying to them, is getting countered by MR. this doesnt really happens usually, unless you are in rankeds i guess, i tested it on normals and most people actually thought i was going for AD or they didnt really cared for it. thinking that i wouldnt do the same damage to them. they were wrong.

my final advice on this and the end of this post is the following.

you should give it a try, it may not be viable in some cases, it may look like trolling for the others. but it works if you give yourself the time to learn it and its hilarious to see the enemy's reaction. specially tanks. nothing more satisfying than entering stealth and appearing right next to the enemy ADC or APC and melt them in a few moves just by hitting them then entering stealth, rinse and repeat.

thanks for watching, im open to criticism and questions regarding the build.

Today I encountered my first AP Rengar.
