Improving League for Season 7
There seems to be a misunderstanding. So I'm going to clarify. My suggestion is not going to change the game THAT much. I was giving such early times to get the point across that playing a game for 50-60 minutes isn't something that should be happening. What I actually meant is for the games to never go past 50 minutes, have 40 minutes be what is considered a "long game". And 30 minutes be were games typically end. essentially overall reducing game time by ~20%. The suggested changes are things that would have to occur for something like that to actually happen Does anyone honestly enjoy hour long games?
Now, I know full well there will be some people against this idea, but I'm positive the vast majority of the community would honestly like this better. It may not be immediate, but I'm sure it will keep players playing league instead of leaving for other games, such as Overwatch.
Make Season 7 have short game times. I realize earlier this season there was an attempt to make the games end a bit sooner than usual, but I'm suggesting a much bigger change than what they have done in the past. Yes there will probably be some balancing issues with items and champions, but I am confident in Riot's ability to make it all work.
I've seen much of the community leave. A large portion of the people on my friend's list stopped playing league entirely because games like Overwatch are available. When I ask them why they left, every single one of them gave me the exact same response, "Overwatch games are significantly shorter". They state that it leads to less stress because if they are having a bad game, they don't have to sit through it for even as long as 20 minutes, but having every game end in a stomp or surrender isn't exactly what I had in mind as "fun". I too play Overwatch often and I understand their POV and agree with many of their points. I just don't want to see one of my most played games for the past 4 years lose more and more of its players, eventually making the game unplayable do to lack of players.
I have a few suggestions to get started on lowering average game times.
- Increase gold income. This would allow for everyone to get to that late game faster.
- Decrease the cost of higher end items, and maybe some lower end items. This goes with "1." just helping along summoners to get items faster.
- Reducing the time on the outer tower damage reduction effect, and looking at lowering scaling of tower defensive stats as the game progresses.
- Increase experience gained from enemy unit deaths with a exp over time effect. This will help all leveling while not severally punishing those who roam.
- Decrease the time it takes to stack items like Tear
and ROA
. Keeps the items relevant. Other items would still need changes, unfortunately I haven't sat through and tried to calculate the best changes for each one. - Increases in gold and experience for jungle creeps. So the jungler doesn't suffer from these changes.
- Decrease in spawn times for Buffs and Drakes. Baron will probably be fine if left alone. I could probably bring up more ideas but those are the ones I'm confident would need changing. There will probably need to be many Item and champion balancing changes, but I'm not going to list experimental changes.
I think the goal that should be set here is 30 minutes as for when most games end for All Games. Bronze through Challenger. These changes may upset some, but I'm positive the negative responses will drop over time. This will keep more players from leaving and allow for much more enjoyment for the vast majority of players. I promise the positives significantly outweigh the negatives for at least this concept, and this should be done in some capacity. Remember, I'm not saying my suggestions are the only choices, but I do believe the concept is well worth it to the community and League of Legends as a whole.
