Thoughts on programmatic ways to fix queues
Problems:
A) People dodge games way too often, especially ranked. B) Draft picking takes way too long. C) Teammates fight over positions in Blind pick.
Solutions:
- Have only two queues one for Ranked one for Not Ranked.
- Have players choose 1-5 positions they are willing to play (remember this setting for each queue).
- Let players pre-pick 3? champions they would like to play for each position in order of preference (remember these settings).
- Let players pre-pick a ban for each position or each champion (remember these settings).
- Optional: have players vote for visible or blind picks, see 8.
- AFK check
- Confirms bans simultaneously (all 10 players at once, it is one reason we love 7 Wonders, Simultaneous Catan, etc...) warn if they are banning a teammates primary or backup picks, maybe show champs not picked. Have short timeouts since they made choices beforehand. Do not flush the game down the toilet for inaction.
- Confirm picks simultaneously. Conflict resolution in Ranked: if both teams choose the same champion option 1: flip, option 2: ban, option 3: ask them if they want to ban or flip an ancient coin for it if they don't agree ban, flip, or randomly ban or flip. If you really want picks/counterpicks simply make the other teams' current selections visible while picking.
- Anyone dodging a queue should carry the same or near the same penalty as a loss.
My two cents, thanks for the fun.
