ARURF+: a short analysis

After playing 100+ games of ARURF+, here’s what I’ve found:

  1. For the most part, whoever takes elder dragon first almost always wins. They get to fights fast, takes objectives faster, start fights healthier, and do much more damage in fights. Getting the first elder makes the rest much more easy.

  2. Baron, in comparison, is meh, but in conjunction with elder makes turrets become meh.

  3. Due to the previous two, as well as the cannon, games end much faster than in previous urf or arurf gamemodes, giving everyone less time to actually play/enjoy urf.

  4. The cannon ends up being a suicide machine half the time. You can be damaged mid flight by anything, including even autos (if you attack move click). And on landing, the short self cc allows the enemy team to instantly kill you.

  5. URF has become rock paper scissors, with innately tankier, longer ranged, higher cc champions taking the throne most of the time

  6. healing reduction has become largely pointless, and makes many sustain champs useless early on. Furthermore, you can just back and launch back with cannon super easy.

  7. having a second summoner spell other than teleport proves to make the gamemode even more unfun. Ignites, ghosts, and barriers (but mainly ignites) that are always up makes it so it takes less of the ability spam to actually kill someone.

  8. Turret plating falls at 6 minutes, but the turrets still have increased resists until 4 min? That 2 minute window alongisde cannons makes it impossible to take turret plating, unless you’re already stomping way too hard+have the optimal turrets killer champions.

  9. Is it just me, or do the same champions keep repeating over and over again???

  10. As long as you’re not olaf, it doesn’t matter how much tenacity you build/take in runes, you will get cc locked and there’s not much you can do about it.

  11. Mages and some adc’s seem to be the most op champions in this gamemode. Champs like hecarim and garen are still very strong but can be hard countered by teams. Unless vs a team with no hard cc, they are no where near as strong as in previous renditions of urf.

  12. Blue Kayn and Vlad (in the right hands) seem to be the (1v5) gods of urf at the moment.

  13. Once again, elder dragon is too strong and often can overthrow “op” urf champions.
