Tinfoil conspiracy theory - Hextech Crafting isn't as random as you think it to be
I remember not having the best of luck with anything related to Hextech Crafting back when it was released. When it was, with all the hype, I recall spending some money on every event, but the hype eventually died down.
In the recent years I've been playing less due to real life being real life and stuff, and I'm pretty sure I haven't spent a single dime on the game in at least 3 years if not more (as a result of a combination of me playing less, balance being off since season 7, and the reduced exclusivity of skins since the Hextech Crafting release).
Now, put on your tinfoil hats, I know this sounds stupid.
Ever since my play rate has started declining, it seems my luck with the Hextech Crafting started increasing. As mentioned, since I stopped spending money on the game - not a single shard I currently have in my invenetory is a result of spending money. https://i.imgur.com/ZVEIOMZ.png https://i.imgur.com/xKdr5Iy.png
That is, on top of atleast 33 epic skins, 7 legendaries and 2 ultimates that I've already redeemed, counting just what I'm sure that weren't received through purchasing.
I used to play atleast 8hrs a day at some points; thus my stupid conspiracy theory is that Riot is trying to keep players in the game through the Hextech Crafting system, giving them a big "luck" increase proportional to their decrease in play time; in a way that players that proved to be invested in the game will keep playing (as opposed to someone that had only ever played 1 game a day on average, dropping to say a game each two days). That would explain my recent luck opening Hextech Chests (I decided writing this up after receiving a solar eclipse leo just now, after atleast about half of my last dozen boxes contained an epic skin if I remember correctly).
Welp, this turned out longer than expected. Adios, boiis.
