Tinfoil conspiracy theory - Hextech Crafting isn't as random as you think it to be

I remember not having the best of luck with anything related to Hextech Crafting back when it was released. When it was, with all the hype, I recall spending some money on every event, but the hype eventually died down.

In the recent years I've been playing less due to real life being real life and stuff, and I'm pretty sure I haven't spent a single dime on the game in at least 3 years if not more (as a result of a combination of me playing less, balance being off since season 7, and the reduced exclusivity of skins since the Hextech Crafting release).

Now, put on your tinfoil hats, I know this sounds stupid.

Ever since my play rate has started declining, it seems my luck with the Hextech Crafting started increasing. As mentioned, since I stopped spending money on the game - not a single shard I currently have in my invenetory is a result of spending money. https://i.imgur.com/ZVEIOMZ.png https://i.imgur.com/xKdr5Iy.png

That is, on top of atleast 33 epic skins, 7 legendaries and 2 ultimates that I've already redeemed, counting just what I'm sure that weren't received through purchasing.

I used to play atleast 8hrs a day at some points; thus my stupid conspiracy theory is that Riot is trying to keep players in the game through the Hextech Crafting system, giving them a big "luck" increase proportional to their decrease in play time; in a way that players that proved to be invested in the game will keep playing (as opposed to someone that had only ever played 1 game a day on average, dropping to say a game each two days). That would explain my recent luck opening Hextech Chests (I decided writing this up after receiving a solar eclipse leo just now, after atleast about half of my last dozen boxes contained an epic skin if I remember correctly).

Welp, this turned out longer than expected. Adios, boiis.

I wonder why they keep giving me good stuff then. I still play as much as I used to, if not less. I don't spend money on the game either.

You're right about one thing: this is indeed a conspiracy theory.

It is a conspiracy.

The truth is, the majority of skins put out in the last 3 years are considered at least "Epic," so the pool has grown larger. Furthermore, your brain has an instinct to process basic skins right away into something else, so you generally deplete their inventory faster.

When Hextech came out, btw, the Champion skin shard weighting was much higher, and there were no emotes yet. Now you have chests that actively omit the champ shards, and you discount the emotes because they are perma on opening (don't need 3 shards or BE/OE to gain them).

I haven't played much lately other than events and my last 5 chests were 3 champion shards and 2 emotes. Before that I barely got any decent skin for a while, and used all of them for rerolls.

also new accounts always get insane luck in hextech chests. you are guaranteed (from my experience) to get legendary skins and epics in the first 10 you open. i got 2 legendarys and 1 epic in the first 4 chests i opened in a new account. then basically you mostly get shit skins.

Lol Random. These types of systems are given %'s of chances to drop things less valuable things having higher percentages.
