The problem I have with Pyke as a Support main

He's feast or famine. From what everyone is saying, they think the way Riot is going to make him go bot is to have low base damage, scaling, and poor wave clear.

Ok, fair enough, then why not build him as a Tank instead? If he has low damage then the logical thing to do is build him as a Tank, right? Well no, his passive converts all of his bonus health into attack damage. Ok, so he has low damage on his abilities but by buying health he instead gets a damage stat that doesn't scale well on him anyway.

So my second to last question is; what does he do if he falls behind? He has no fallback pattern since he cant go tanky and from what i see of his kit, he has no defensive steroids either so he either wins lane and snowballs or loses and becomes useless since hes melee and has to be near the enemy to do his job. It honestly sounds like after lanning phase that he falls off hard compared to other Supports anyway actually.

So why would I, as a Support main, EVER pick Pyke over someone like Leona or Thresh or Rakan who can also make big plays but also have safe fallback patterns when they don't get ahead? Why would I pick Pyke in solo que where I regularly see every other player on my team pick a high damage, low durability, low utility, champ already? I don't understand how he makes Assassin players want to play him since he actually doesn't do that much damage, or make Support players want to play him since getting ahead is so important for him and he has no more utility than a lot of Fighters, Mages, and Tanks. I don't understand how they're trying to sell this champ.

Let's see what his damage numbers/scaling is before we make judgments. According to Riot, Duskblade and Ghostblade are good on him, so he must do some a good amount of damage. These are higher gold items than supports can usually afford, but his ultimate will hopefully help him get more than most supports.

Overall, Yes, he probably will be less reliable and more feast/famine than most supports, but I don't think it'll be as bad as you think. Let's wait and see.

I don't see him as feast or famine - yet. His skills list suggest that he could be still useful as a cc'er and/or tank when he falls behind. (Yup, potentially he could be an assassin that is still useful if he dies a few times.)

But I do see him as a champ that will get poached for other lanes and eventually will migrate into top, jungle or mid. [Think of how the support role lost Gangplank, Syndra, Heimerdinger and Rumble. Yes, they were all designed with support role in mind -primarily or secondarily - lest we forget.]

He might work as a bruiser. He won't be very tanky, but he can stack resistances. That might make certain items (item 3742 item 3143 ) kinda okay on him.

I don't see him being feast or famine, he has enough cc to do well from behind.

He also has an execute in his kit which makes it easier to come back.

Well. To be fair he was proposed as a “risky” champ. It’s like Draven, snowball or lose. They have one in pretty much every lane. Why not Support too?

How do we know he is "feast or famine" if we do not know the Ratio and cooldowns of any of his abilities. Anyone who says he is "feast or famine" without having any of the data required to make the judgement are just speculating and you cannot pass that off as fact. I mean the only reason you know he is AD is because of his passive.
