Assassin's Dagger good on adc's?

I have been building assassing dagger on my adc's. I have not found it to be a problem item. I felt having the movement speed increase on Trist was nice, also the high atk dmg, the armor pen and nightfall seemed to be good for an adc. Some of my teams have raged at me tho for not building Trist (or any adc i play) properly. I was wondering if anyone could give me reasons that it is or is not a good item on adc. Any math on it? Thanks.

Graves Quinn could probably use it nicely because they have decent burst

what other items would you suggest and why? Which one would offer more early?

On Jhin it can be nice if youre fed. Just proc your last AA on someone and boom.

It's not an awful item. The other ones could just do a lot more for you. Late game it could potentially really pay off if you snowball, though.

Math argument?

Flat Penetration is not what you expect on an ADC ever. In a standard team, it is the ADC's job to kill the enemy team's tankiest members. Flat Penetration is a stat designed to multiply your damage best against targets that do not stack Armor at all. In fact, due to how these items are balanced, it tends to be that Flat Penetration items also fall off exceedingly fast relative to items without any penetration as the enemy team stacks armor. To rephrase, building Flat Penetration defeats your purpose on the team.

It works perfectly fine if the enemy team is squishy and/or their frontline are exclusively high health low armor targets. However, if your team is balanced and their team is balanced, it's not the best item to support the job you need to do.

  1. Marksmen deal dps. Not burst. (some exceptions do apply ( Twitch Graves Quinn ) which makes the item less than ideal on them.
  2. The item lacks significant damage multipliers found in Infinity Edge/Essence Reaver and the safety of Bloodthirster.
  3. If you get it and don't snowball early, you're behind.
  4. It doesn't scale well.
  5. Marksmen don't have the target selection an asssassin has in teamfights and will have to start auto attacking whatever is closest to them, making nightfall proc on a less than desirable target in most circumstances.
  6. Tanks don't give a fuck about nightfall. (The damage is reduced by armor and your lack of ability to get them to low in 2 seconds further reduces the impact of the passive)

A friend of mine has been taking it first/second item on Twitch with amazing results. The idea is that the damage is good and the passive helps you take out the targets that get away. I imagine it synergizes well with Twitch's poison. As far as the penetration stats go, some champions never stack armor at all. Against bruisers, mages, and many ADCs, the armor pen probably helps plenty. But it still has the raw damage. I don't see why it shouldn't work on an ADC, I just don't think it's a go-to option, nor the best late-game option.
