Filling Roles

I was going to make this a complaint post, but then I remembered any complaints on the boards are automatically seen as a rager after one game venting, so I have decided against this and rather to make it an informative post on the topic, besides any complaints get responses of "You lost so it's your fault, stop blaming other people if you want to rank up."

So, what exactly is filling? Well filling in chapion select means you usually play whatever role is left, sometimes this is by choice, other times it is forced due to others playing all other roles and not wanting to create an argument, usually it is due to the latter.

An example of this would be, say you are 3rd pick because that is the mean median and mode of the five positions, you will be third in the example. As third pick you have 2 people above you 2 people below you, let's say the last player says he can't adc and would prefer support, after this the 1st pick takes ADC, not only so the last person wouldn't get ADC left but also they would get a support main, second picks mid so this is not an issue, and then you have 3rd and 4th pick, you want a role, i.e. jungle and the other guy wants it too, you are a jungle main but say, well its better for me to play in top since I am more confident in top than this other guy but I will need some help. At this point the 4th pick takes a jungler and there is no problem. Yet.

The next part is where the issue arises, you've just picked a role you aren't that good at or maybe can hold the lane, but that doesn't mean you wont come up against a decent laner or a hard matchup requiring some help from the jungler. The real problem is the performance of the jungler who you gave his main role to, if he plays badly you will tilt knowing you could've done better, not only that but you held in a role on your own due to the lack of help but the player who took your role messed up, big time. Of course we can safely assume that on of the other lanes (bot/mid) messed up and the remaining one did well, however this does not exclude that both do poorly, without the help of the jungler which is most likely or that they both did well without the jungler and getting ganked which is INCREDIBLY unlikely.

This then puts you on tilt for the next game and we already know where this goes.

My question is, should you fill and hope that you are better in the role you fill than the other guy is and PRAY that he plays ok in his role of choice, or should you just take the role off him knowing he will play badly but assist him?
