Was Orange Essence a mistake?

I saw its skin-exchange rate went from (RP/3) OE to (RP/5) OE, whilst the value to purchase skins still remains at (RP - 300) OE. I was looking for answers, and all I saw from other posts was people saying, "Riot lowered it because we'll be getting free stuff from other events more often." So that breeds the question towards Riot:

#Would you take back Orange Essence if you could?

It seems to me that you want to make it as nullified as possible and be replaced by other things, but you know you can't just rip the Orange Essence people currently have. That'd be just plain scummy.

But it sucks because I have a whole bunch of shards that I know disenchanting would be useless, now. So all I can do is reroll them into permanents.

I also noticed the exchange rate for permanent shards became (RP/2), which is a buff. Which is funny, because we can no longer disenchant new permanents, either. Unless it was always like that, depending on whether you do or don't own certain champions. Oh, well.
