The new help a new player quest
Dear Riot, I just played a Beginner bots match looking. Everyone in the match was trying to complete the quest. Then, I tried an Intro bots match, and same thing. I don't want a dodge penalty, so we're all high level, completing Intro bots looking for a low level. I just dodged a second Intro bots match with the same thing. Now, during my 5 minute penalty, I have the option to write this freely (I don't think I deserve the 5 min penalty, since every real player in the match wanted out: perhaps a remake option at champ select requiring every real person in game to accept?).
If you're going to have this kind of quest, it would be nice to have some sort of "mentor a newbie" option in finding games. I don't mind helping new people out. If you do implement such a system, the two issues would be troll high levels, and troll low levels (not real newbies looking for help). In the game I work on, there is an optional newbie flag for a new character (opt in), and a teacher flag for high levels that like helping new people. May I suggest an opt-in option for new characters and an option to move in and out of the mentor role. Some new accounts don't want a mentor; that's understandable. Some people don't want to be mentors; that's also understandable. As for the trolling, it should be dealt with more harshly than regular trolling. This is because you want new players, and they're doing real harm to the game by cutting off that source.
Post put on pause while I play a Beginner TT bots match with a level 11. Completed, but they didn't join the party in the next game (I don't know why, they said they were coming back after being gone for a while but that's pretty much all they said). So, onto another Beginner TT match where one person is also looking to complete the quest and another not responding. I guess, trying to complete the quest by telling people that's what you're trying to do doesn't work. I'll try just finding a low level and inviting them to the next game.
(Many Beginner TT matches later - no wait times now)
Back to trolling, it's more likely that the new players get upset, so you have to take that into account. It's also more likely that people that like to troll pick this option because trolls like to troll people who are trying to help. So, this should be included somewhere in a message to people entering the Mentor status (like a newbie help tip). Then, on the higher end side, perhaps having some sort of level 55 (?) limit so that people have invested a significant amount of time and don't want to lose the account. This should prevent most upper end trolling new players - the exception being those players (I've encountered one in my life) who are insane enough to invest a lot of time just to attack the people trying to make a game designed for their enjoyment.
Sincerely, Me
