I was thinking about the Ranking system within League of Legends, and a few things about it kind of bug me. I'm not sure, but I have heard that a players MMR and ranking of the previous seasons factors into the formula which places players into their respective divisions after the 10 placement matches. I don't think this should be the case; why not place players solely on their performance in the placement matches? I feel that some players who are fairly skilled have low MMRs as they play the same account they started with, instead of smurfing for a higher MMR, and though they have equal skill to players of higher MMR they don't have the time to grind the ratio of win to loss to a number that accurately represents player skill. Say someone plays 500 games, and for those 500 games they just dont click with the game, and do terribly; then, things shift, the game is explained by a third party, or some reading done online. The player perhaps ought to have done these things or figured it out by 500 games (this is an extreme exemplary scenario) but it still stand that it lill take 1000 more games of straigh wins to forge an impressive MMR- this is acceptable for normals, but ranked I feel should level the playing field, pitting MMRwise bronze players against, according to MMR, gold players. I am sure that for the mostpart, the matches would be dominated by these more "elite" players. However, I believe that some cases would reflect the supposedly inferior player actually upsetting the balance and outplaying those players with higher MMR. Ive played friends who are in much higher levels of the system, yet competed strongly with them, and im a mere Bronze 1 player. I just feel as though the system often places players in areas that they are far superior or inferior too. Id like to see some refinements in the oncoming season, at least for placement... but thats just me- thoughts, or corrections to my ignorance???
