Idea for Gangplank's Rework
Something that I believe is an integral part of Gangplanks identity is his parrrley and its interaction with crit. A problem that has been addressed is that his e gives too much invisible power with the ad and movement speed aura. Gp's q, w, and r are his most iconic skills so I'm expecting them to stay relatively similar, maybe a little health or missing health scaling on the oranges. However, if more power is added to his q, it could allow the rest of his kit to be more utility based. I believe his q should also integrate a toggle that can be activated when it is on cd that replaces his autoattack.
The inspiration for this comes from Gangplank's very own crit animation, where he ditches his sword to shoot his gun despite being in melee range. With my proposed toggle, he'll attempt to fire the gun as a basic attack and if the attack would normally crit, it would shoot. Otherwise it would be a dud that takes a fraction of the mana cost. Important mechanics to this is that if in melee range when its a dud, gangplank should do a normal sword strike anyway, and that the dud having no recoil should have no interruptions to his movement unless an actual bullet is fired. Also, it would be oppressive if whenever a real bullet was shot it was a crit, so the bullet should have an independent chance of critting seperate from the dud. Also, the base damage of the toggle could be a fraction of the parrrley's base damage as a tuning lever.
This would encourage an interesting gameplay mechanic: critfishing would become an integral part of a champions kit. The dud mechanism would be less punishing since it normally occurs during a time when the champion could take no action -- instead now it grants the possibility for damage. Differing manacosts for successful shots or duds could be used to balance the mechanic, whether it be less punishing duds or more rewarding successes. Also, since the chance depends on crit chance it has very little abuse potential in lane, which is where most counterplay problems with current gangplank lies. It would simply waste too much mana to finally land a hit, that would be a parrrley crit instead of a normal auto anyway. It also further encourages crit itemization, which is traditionally something gangplank wants. This allows him to better scale as a carry, but will make it harder to itemize as a bruiser since crit items generally require heavier itemization. The added utility on all of his moves and the existing q will allow those playstyles to be possible, but he would be rewarded heavily for the synergy in his build and abilities not just in pure power, but also in possibility as he will be able to do more.
Also, the one piece of information that we have about his current rework is that he has 3 unknown items. If these are different trinkets then my words don't apply, but if these items are anything like viktor's hex core then I recommend that they give movement speed and replace boots. Both viktor and gangplank have a lot of items competing for those 6 slots, but I believe viktor's situation was handled beautifully. If gp was forced to buy an item though, a lot of people would qq unless the item was really strong. The boots options for gp aren't especially strong anyway so people would probably like that more.
