I fixed Master Yi (in just under six minutes)
Not saying the numbers are balanced. The concept is what's important. The point is to prove that Yi can be reworked into a state that requires more skillful play without "weakening" him or stripping his identity.
PASSIVE: Wuju Style
Every 4th attack against a single champion deals 25% of its damage as true damage. The first 1/2/3/4 (based on channel time) attacks executed 5 seconds after casting Meditate all deal 50% of their damage as true damage instead of stacking Wuju Style.
Balance Effect: Yi no longer gets bonus true damage. Instead, he's rewarded for picking his Meditate moments carefully and focusing on a single champion by getting true damage based on his attack damage. If he sets the pace properly, he gets better lifesteal and DPS output than he normally would... but ONLY if he sets the pace.
Q: Cut the Arrow
**(Cost: 45/50/65/75/90 Mana) (Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10) ** For 0.5 seconds, Master Yi becomes immune to basic attacks. Any basic attack that hits him during this time is deflected at the attacker for 20/40/60/80/100% of the damage that would have been dealt to Master Yi.
Balance Effect: Yi's "get out of jail free" card is limited to basic attacks and no longer makes him completely immune from negative effects for two full seconds. In exchange, correct use of the ability both provides Yi sustain and turns an enemy's power back on them, making duels against a Yi a risky proposition, but only if the player is skilled.
W: Meditate
(Cost: 65 Mana) (Cooldown: 30) Master Yi channels 1 to 4 seconds, reducing incoming damage by 50/60/70/80/90%, reducing to half this value over the course of the channel. If he channels for the full 4 seconds, he heals for 180/240/300/340/390 (+100% AP), then becomes untargetable and gains +75% movement speed for 3 seconds after the channel.
Balance Effect: Rather than simply healing him until Alpha Strike is off cooldown, Meditate now has two changes. First, it backloads most of the rewards. You only get the heal if you channel through, and you get it all at once. To compensate, the heal power and damage reduction are increased.
Second, you get rewards for using Meditate tactically. Using it just before a gank or initiate affords you 3 seconds of immunity and a huge speed buff. Coupled with the changes to his passive, this allows you a brief period of immense power that you generally have to telegraph. Or, at the very least, you have to sacrifice a mid-fight damage reduction and heal to ready your buffs from a hidden position before going in.
E: Master's Precision
(Cost: 45 Mana) (Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12) Master Yi lunges forward along the path of a very fine skillshot, reaching anywhere between 1 and 800 units. He deals a basic attack at 60/80/100/120/140% strength to all enemies he comes in contact with.
If Master Yi's dash ends on top of an enemy, that enemy instead takes four basic attacks in rapid succession at 30/50/70/90/110% strength.
Each attack executed through Master's Precision reduces Meditate's cooldown by 1 second (2.5 seconds for each champion). These attacks count as basic attacks: They stack and proc on-hit effects, lifesteal, and Wuju Style. In the case of landing on top of an enemy, Wuju Style is reset to 0 before the four attacks are executed, ensuring Master Yi gets to proc Wuju Style with his next attack against that target.
Balance Effect: Yi still has a method of jumping on opponents, but it can now be dodged. Skillful play and powers of prediction are rewarded with a more powerful attack to enemies caught precisely (within a small radius) at the end of his dash. What's more, as he'll often use this after Meditate, lining up good vectors cools Meditate down faster, adding another layer of skillful play to the champion.
#R: Manifold Blades (Cost: 100 Mana) (Cooldown: 120) Passive: Champion takedowns trigger Meditate's full channel effect for 1 second, at 25% heal power.
Active: For 7 seconds, Master Yi becomes immune to slows and cripples and marks all enemies in a wide radius. Master Yi's basic attacks gain +400 range against marked enemies. The first time Master Yi attacks a marked enemy, he teleports to their location and consumes the mark, dealing 40/80/100 (+60% AD) bonus true damage.
Every time he teleports to a champion, Master Yi leaves a ghost behind him. at the end of the 7 second duration, the ghosts converge on the most recently damaged enemy champion and inflict 150/200/300 (+40% AD) physical damage in a line along their path.
Balance Effect: Yi retains his mobility during his ultimate, but it's no longer used to simply run enemies down. Instead, the ultimate rewards prediction, positioning, and mouse dexterity by allowing him to jump around the area with basic attacks.
