Unpopular opinion: Exhaust > Ignite/Heal
Lately, I've stopped taking heal when playing ADC/APC and instead took exhaust because I found it to be more useful in staying alive. With champions like Xin, Irelia and Kha playing all-in on the ADC and support having an unusual fetish for ignite, the ADC has to peel for themselves and can't rely on their support.
Maffs wise, at level 18 heal recovers 345 hp, however a lot of divers does over 1.5k burst within 2.5 seconds. Assuming even if they take conqueror for 20% true damage, a proper exhaust will still negate 480 damage which is more than what heal negates. Not to mention in duels between adcs where in 2.5s they can dish out 3k, that's a 1.2k damage reduction compared to a measly 345. Another bonus is that it serves as a mini grievous wound, where it acts as a 40% heal reduction on lifesteal like AA or ability for 2.5s and stackable with things like Executioners/Morello.
The only negative thing I can see is your team will blame you for not "healing" for them as a carry with complaints mostly coming from support. If the support takes exhaust, taking heal is fine, but if the support takes ignite, exhaust is superior on ADCs, followed by barrier.
