How are you supposed to learn a mid champion?

Fury and Emperor·11/30/2014, 9:45:10 PM·21 votes·3,425 views

Here are the game modes to choose from:

  • Bots: You'll learn to stay away from Annie and not much else.
  • Blind pick: MID MIDMID MID MIDMIDMID MID I SAID MID FIRST GG IM TROLLING.
  • **Teambuilder: **You can go mid unopposed after forty-five minutes.
  • Draft normals: Tried once, waited in queue for 20 minutes, gave up.
  • Ranked: Let's learn a role you rarely play and a champion you never played before in ranked, I'm sure you won't get reported for intentional feeding.

It takes you 45 minutes to find a match in Team Builder? It takes me on average around 1-2 minutes. I was able to find one as I typed this.

The queue time shouldn't be that long for Draft. Most you wait is 10 minutes unless there is a string of dodges or you're on low-priority.

Blind pick is still the best, but your odds improve if you queue up with friends. Even if it's only one friend, you removed one person who could be fighting for a position.

Bots do nothing to help you learn a champion.

  • Blind pick: MID MIDMID MID MIDMIDMID MID I SAID MID FIRST GG IM TROLLING.

Not everyone calls mid in Blind pick.

  • **Teambuilder: **You can go mid unopposed after forty-five minutes.

more like 3-5

  • Draft normals: Tried once, waited in queue for 20 minutes, gave up.

lol. Draft normal queues take one minute.

  • Ranked: Let's learn a role you rarely play and a champion you never played before in ranked, I'm sure you won't get reported for intentional feeding.

You won't. I do it all the time. Buying new champions and taking them straight into ranked isn't that bad of an idea as long as you have a general understanding of a champion, which you probably have if you are level 30.

Queue up.

I notice OP is from the EUW server, and that might be affecting how long it takes to find a role. The vast majority of commenters have been from the NA server, like myself. On the NA servers I can get a slot as mid in under a minute, often under 25 seconds. This sounds like an issue specific to the EUW servers. I'm no expert, but it could have to do with a lower population of players on that server overall, or maybe Riot has more than 1 server for the EUW and as such the player population may be split. (NA has one server, on the west coast, so we're all cue-ing together)

I've never had issues finding Team builder or Draft Normal matches within 5 minutes, although i'm on NA and you're EUW.

The easiest way to guarantee a position or at least increase your chances of getting it is to que up with some friends if you can. Internet friends work too if you tell them about your situation before queing. As a side note, I find it strange that normal draft has an absurdly long que for you. It only has a slightly higher que time then blind for me. Maybe it's just a more common que at high-silver MMR, but I don't know.

Blind Pick is stupid, don't even try with that. Draft Pick is pretty good, it's a short queue time, and there is lots of communications. Teambuilder is alright, and the queue times are relatively short, just know you'll have to wait for a bot lane. Ranked is the best. You learn more in ranked because your with people your skill. There is no "elo hell", if you lose a game it's because you didn't carry. "BUT THEIR TOP LANE OLAF WAS 20-0 AT 10 MINUTES!", I don't see you roaming up to help, or staying in your lane to get uber fed like him, or roaming to bot to get your ADC fed. Also, learning a role you never/rarely play isn't a bad thing. It's important to know how all the roles work and play, and why the hell would you pick a champ you never played before? lol. Just pick someone you're comfortable with in that lane. If you go top fiddlesticks but always get fed and carry the game, and pick top fiddle in ranked, your team will diss you. Just ignore them and get fed and carry.

That was probably a little ranty, my bad.

i typically get mid in about 10 minutes on team builder. (including the time it takes the rest of the team to fill up)

if i try to call mid in blinds i get it on average 1/2 times. but i guess i have a fast computer and i connect to the lobby quickly.

you can practice a lot of mid champs top lane if you want as well. azir in particular - i personally think he's better played top than mid =P

Learning top is worse actualy. When I'm learning a mid champion I just call support. This way I learned Xerath Lux Orianna . I'm not going to spend 30 minutes in Q while it only takes 5 seconds with support. Da hell you will learn a lot more from a extra game than playing one time correctly in the correct role. So long the midlaner that you are learning add least has some kind of utility you will be fine. Most times you will actualy perform better than your ally midlaner...

As it happens, I did this last night with Azir and wow did I suck. Gonna take a bunch of games to be at all proficient.

I find that I get a mid lane spot in team builder in about 5 minutes. I kind of expected it to be quicker in lower elo.

Just speculating: I guess there are fewer supports queued in lower elo, and that's what makes queue times long?
