Change my mind: Sett isn't OP in top. Everybody else is just too damn weak

I mean, Soraka and Sona managed to dominate toplane hard enough to trigger an IMMEDIATE response by Riot, which just goes to show that toplaners simply suck that hard. So Sett, the one Toplaner who does his identity, as an Immobile beefy High Melee-only damage Character that can 2v1 easy, full justice, he ends up standing out.

Everything that has been happening to toplane these last few patches just show that every supposed pick for the lane has been gutted as bad, if not worse, than Azir was between Seasons 6 to 8.

You do understand that this is a definition of OP, right? If everyone is weak, that sets a standard strength level. If a champion (sett) is much stronger than those other champions which are the standard, he is OP. That's literally the definition. And no, top lane champions are not weak or bad in general. They just have natural weaknesses and flaws that get exploited by others. That's the natural interaction between melee champions and ranged champions. You can't give the melee champions better gap closers to deal with ranged champions because then adcs become bad either. So the only way that this could be fixed is to give the intended top laners a hp regen passive like doran's shield has but a bit stronger and remove doran's shield so champion like akali etc don't abuse it anymore, she is supposed to be exploitable early. That would help top laners survive ranged match-ups way better (you could even make it diminishing so it's stronger on early levels but wears off completely as you gain levels). Ofc, this would mean that INTENDED ranged top laners like jayce and teemo would have to get grievous wounds or something to their attacks so they still remain relevant in their own role.

This thread is pointless, no one is calling him OP after the nerf, his WR is 50%, no one cares anymore.

different way to say the same thing. because everyone wants everything nerfed all the time you end up with this situation where a champion that isn't actually strong is now strong. him being weaker than everything else means that everything is overnerfed so he's then stronger than everyone else. because everyone is weak. sett is less weak than everyone else. and so he is the strongest.

these types of champions already exist btw, orianna, when she's strong in soloq it means everything is overnerfed. syndra, same thing. azir same thing. garen used to serve this role for top but now it's probably supposed to be yorick or something, doesn't matter anyway cause the lane is filled with anything but what it's intended for. bottom lane, is ashe or twitch good, if so everything else is too weak. support it's sona and taric. jgl it's allegedly supposed to be gragas but i'm not seeing it, amumu though, when he's strong at elite elo's you'll know the jgl pool is fucked.

and when i say "strong at elite elo's" i mean the pro's are playing the champ to maintain winrates while soloq'ing, not some one trick is doing wonders with the matchmaking.

Funny because sett had also 55 % winrate in jungle, also Darius has like 52 % winrate and 11 % playrate, but yeah, everybody is weak in top (Btw, do you know that if a class is weak you can pick another one, right? There is no one obligating you to pick X kind of champs in X lane)

I think sett isn't as strong as everyone makes him out to be at all. Think he is a bit stronger than most but for a different reason. this reason being that it is hard to trade with him. His shield basically shields him for 70% of his missing health. A bit too much. A small nerf there and it will be fine.

I dont think they even gave enough time for sett before nerfing him. He didn't even do good in pro league when he got picked

I'll use that excuse next time a champion i like is getting high winrate + pickrate. The excuse i've seen thrown around the boards to defend Sett have been borderline psychotic, ranging from OP saying "He's not OP, EVERYONE ELSE is weak!" to "Of course Sett is popular! he's a good looking hot champion so people like to watch him ingame"
