Just to get this out of the way, yes, I DID just lose to a LeBlanc. Yes, I AM a little salty about it. Yes, I picked a champ that doesn't do very well into LeBlanc (Kassadin). And yeah, there were plenty of factors that led to that loss (their team was objectively better than ours)
But, for real, what's the game plan when you see that LeBlanc pick? Let's assume you're not counter picking here, because I already know how to play Fizz and I don't need to be told to just pick him. I mean, if you are playing a champion that doesn't just straight counter her, what's the plan? Try to CC her during her dash? Actually a fine plan; one I could not utilize, but it is a fine plan. Other than that though (and the obvious "kill her first, dummy") I really can't think of (or find) any other answers. I just CAN'T play this match-up unless I'm playing a Fizz. Its the most frustrating match-up ever. I can't farm, I can't roam (except to counter her's), and even on the occasions I get ahead I rarely see this "falling off" point everyone keeps talking about; she pretty much stays a terrifying assassin 100% of the time in every game I see her.
I mean, I have a list of grievances with her entire kit I won't bore anyone with (unless they ask) but I seriously just want to know what the fuck I'm supposed to do here when I'm NOT playing a champion that just murders her.
Just a foreword before I get into dissecting LeBlanc:
I do consider myself rather skilled as a LeBlanc main, despite my low ranking. I would rather not be judged by where I stand in ranked, or what my match history may look like, but rather what I am presenting on how to play versus a LeBlanc. I have played and mained her since Season 2, and I have ~500 or more games in total as her.
Champion Select
If you are in champion select and you have the opportunity to counter pick a LeBlanc, under no circumstance would I ever recommend playing Fizz. Like any counter, skill level can determine a victory rather than simply countering them with a champion. You do leave yourself open to this possibility as Fizz, or any other champion.
Your best bet is to pick Galio. I know his may be lackluster, but maxing his shield first and getting a negatron cloak early basically allows you to almost ignore LeBlanc if you pop it when she throws a Q, or attempts a combo. If you don't pick Galio, Syndra's range and control can be an excellent counter because you can E LeBlanc back when she dashes in to try and kill you, or stun her if you set up right before ulting with Syndra. There are a few other possibilities, but these are probably your best options.
Summoner spells for Galio should forfeit ignite and pick up a barrier or exhaust with flash since you are better if you build tankier instead of straight AP.
Summoner spells for Syndra could forfeit ignite for a barrier, but that depends on what the enemy team looks like and how much dive potential they have to help LeBlanc.
Runes and masteries should give you AP, but also realize how you intend to play and perhaps push a bit of health or MR to help counter her burst.
If you are not picking after her, focus on playing a bit more passive, look for sustain instead of burst, and don't be afraid to focus defensively instead of offensively. I will cover why in a moment.
First 12 Minutes of the Game
This is the most crucial part of playing versus a LeBlanc, she MUST get some form of advantage from you and an early kill or two, otherwise her snowball begins too late and she can fall off easier. Next you need to understand your teams composition, if you have a lot of CC, then she will be hard pressed mid-late game when enter to try and kill somebody because your team will be able to pick her off or lock her down.
When laning versus her, level 2 (If she is smart) is when she is her strongest until level 6. If she lands a QW combot on you, you are likely down 1/3 to 1/2 your HP. This can be repeated with an ignite and auto attack in 10 seconds when her W is off CD. You NEED to be careful, because a skilled LeBlanc will flash, QW, ignite, and throw one or two auto attacks. If you are able, set up a trap under your turret to stun her if shes cocky and dives. The key her is using your turret to help, and locking farm under it when possible.
Try to avoid relying on your jungler, likely they are busy and won't come until it is generally too late, so instead focus on playing a defensive game, getting CS and trading with her ONLY when you are able to do so safely. She may starve you of CS, but if you feed her kills while your at it, you will skrew yourself later.
In fact I did this to a Zed who I will now use as an example.
I actually was AFK until 2:30, but I came to lane and got my level 2, he tried to exert dominance, but a QW took him to half, while he traded for 1/3 my HP. I popped a potion, and waited 10 seconds while CSing. He did so as well while backing off. I pushed to his turret where he was back to 2/3 his HP and started farming. I caught him under his turret and got a QW and ignite to take him to 1 HP w/ his potion active. This didn't kill him, but I CSed and got an extra level and a half on him. I then pushed the turret and let him farm out while acting defensive giving him what appeared to be control. He pushed out and got aggressive again. I pulled off a QW and locked him with an E. A few auto attacks and a Q got me first blood. From then I starved him of CS, playing aggressively until he tried to get a few CS near his tower. I immediately QW him to punish before walking away as he left screen to heal with a pot. He comes back and again tries to get CS while i walked to ward river bush. I flash QW and kill him.
My point here is, you will likely be starved of CS while playing a weaker champion against LeBlanc. The key is to avoid giving her kills and ensure your team is aware if she roams. If she does roam to try and get a kill, realize she is out of lane and losing CS/Exp. Capitalize on this, but ensure vision to avoid a gank that may kill you by her or the jungler. If she can't get a kill, then she will have missed out on CS and Exp for nothing, giving you a slight edge. DO NOT TRY TO CAPITALIZE just because you have a slight advantage. Unless you are 100% certain you can take her after testing the waters perhaps with a bait on a QW to see the damage it deals, do not engage her alone. She will get the edge, and start the snowball. Instead keep starving her of kills and force her to roam for hopefully nothing if you can signal. Always signal if she leaves, you never know what she may be doing. Always be ready to bail if the jungler gets caught in his zone too, I frequently leave lane to kill a jungler at his red when he passes through the lane. Keep slowly gaining strength while avoiding giving her kills, and towards the mid game, she will begin to feel the pain.
All in all, you need to play smart, know her moves before she makes them, and play a slow game instead of her fast paced game.
I hope this helps a bit, and I apologize if this seems to ramble, I am a bit tired so I am not at my peak.
P.S. If for some reason you want to discuss this at a deeper level, feel free to shoot me a friend request in game under the name Poiseidon. (NA)
I don't mind helping you out to understand what you can do best if you are put back in a situation like you described.
