May This Poor Solo Queue Peasant Have A Moment Of Your Time?
This article will discuss a long time players views of League of Legends past, present, and future.
Past: The game was great there hadn't been very many or any MOBA's. The ones that existed, were marketed like shit and honestly. Deserve to be shit on for bad managerial practices. The game felt new and fresh, everything that we did and didnt do was an experience. We didn't know any better nor did we care. We wanted to go into a game and play Cait Mid or AP Yi. Those were great times that can never exist now. We have grown and learned.
Current: League of Legends is still alright at best right now. But it just pains me and majority of my friends to see things that sound stupid on paper get pushed through. The removal of Pink Wards on Stealth was something I had always said was dumb. If you chose to play a stealth champion fully knowing that at some point in the game you would get hard countered by a single item every member of the enemy team could buy. It was your fault. But riot decided to remove that capability from everyone else for the minority. Because they thought it brough out more "fun" and "interesting" with "unique" gameplay. Which only made champions like Shaco, Kha, Vayne, and many more a nightmare to deal with. But that wasn't the deciding factor to why the game AT BEST is alright. Riot then decided that Unique gameplay was more important than overall Game Health. The ideas of Free Summoners in a champion kit was a bad idea. That part of the kit doesn't make the champion unique. It makes the champion uninteractive. If I flash On Zoe she can flash, take my flash, and flash again. I am going to skip over things like disarm and sleep. Then currently someone thought that removing true sight from the game is a good idea. There are some fundamental unspoken rules about league of legends. Like your own champion can't kill their own minions or allies. Every champion only has 6 item slots. And more that exist. But with recent trends and ideas. I feel as though those rules will not exist in the future for the sake of Uniqueness.
Futhermore, the agenda of shortening games has gone too far now. Let me explain my side first and I will tap into others. As a mainly solo queue player, I played to play against people around my skill and to climb. Yeah sure I hate losing. But I can tell you that I enjoy a good match much more than I dislike losing a game. A slug fest that goes on for 35-45 minutes where it feels like EVERYONE did their best and it wasn't any singular person's fault that we lost. Thats a great feeling. Regardless of win or loss. But solo queue is nothing like that. Solo queue is over by the 30 minute mark AT the latest. There simply isn't time for a slug fest. On top of that, majority of the time it feels like one or two players on your team do not deserve to be in your rank. That happens and I don't fault them. We all have bad games, it happens. But when you go 6-8 games in a row. Get a break for 2 games and then get another 6-8 games in a row. It gets really frustrating really fast. This is before you take into account that diamond 5 players don't care to climb past that point and can/ do jeopardize other players that are still attempting to climb. When I say Jeopardize I do not mean like they troll and throw. I mean that they don't play league for 25 days, remember "Oh around the 25th of this month I have to play a ranked game" play a ranked game because you have to lose something like 12-13 games to demote out of diamond 5 0 lp. Proven by myself. There isn't enough time for decay to work on them. So they inadvertently hurt other players games. So the quality of player has also dropped.
Finally Objectives.
Towers were once a force to reckon with. You would watch zed look at you under your tower with 25% HP and you backing, because 2 tower shots did 60% of his HP. Dragons weren't so game deciding. Baron was a game changer or enhancer NOT a game sweeper or ender. Somehow we went from things that made the game fun and always having a chance to. Games need to be over as soon as possible with no time for recovery. I could care less about what goes on in the .0001% of players. Because without the 99.9999% of players that .0001% and the company wouldn't be here. I am not saying to disregard them. But I am saying to not fully focus on them. You want your middle ground to be the area you focus on.
Future: As it stands we all can see that Riot Games is very worried about the NA scene. As a person who has maxed out their friends list for 6 or 7 years. I have noticed that a lot of my older friends dont come online much anymore. A bunch of them come online to play one or two games a month and leave. Between life and different games. People are bored of League. Time put in vs enjoyment or statifaction received isn't there. At least with games like The Division or Warframe. Even thr pointless task give you something you may eventually need, but leagie doesn't have that type of system. Runes were removed and replaced. Champions are a game of grind out games to maybe get a chance to get enough for a new champion. You pigeon holed yourself into this bad system. Rewards don't even feel good, because make gold for a champion 95-99% of people don't play and get a border that everyone else you play against has. Be viewed as a terribad player when you start to climb, but those players around you.
Riot. Don't buff Yasuo or make "unique" champions if you want your game to survive.
