Support farming when ADC out of lane

So I'm not new to the game by any standards, but I freely admit that I'm a noob. I'm a pretty bad low elo player and I don't play much. Anyways, I've been playing support my last few games and I wanted to know if it's okay for support to farm bot when the adc is recalled. I know that generally I should save the minions for the adc, but when they're not there, it's just xp that I can get that no one else would, I guess... But please correct me if I shouldn't be doing this. (I was playing with a Teemo that went bot my last game who recalled quite a bit and I ended up two levels ahead from them not taking cs and recalling a lot, and just to be clear when they were in lane I didn't take cs.)

From a high platinum support main, its completely okay! Just don't push the wave, only LAST HIT the minions never keep autoing them. If the wave is about to crash into your turret don't let it. Tank the damage from the creeps and keep them outside turret range until the your next wave comes. (Let it crash into the turret if the enemy laners return to lane however!)

  • Just remember only LAST HIT and do not PUSH it.

It isn't just acceptable, but expected for a Support to take cs when their adc isn't around. By taking minions while the adc isn't around, the Support can prevent minions from dying to other minions or the tower, both of which are a waste of gold. They shouldn't push the wave however, they should freeze it to minimize the amount of cs taken from their adc. If you're unfamiliar with these terms, pushing a wave is clearing them as fast as possible to "push" the minions up to the enemy tower, while freezing a wave is only taking minions right before they die so that the minions "freeze" in place. Most players, particularly new ones, push the wave constantly to secure the last hit as soon as possible. For adcs, this is advisable, because it helps them recover health through the lifesteal on Doran's Blade or the life-on-hit on Cull. For you as a Support however, you should generally just wait for your minions to lower their health until you can last-hit with your wimpy autos.

Two things.

Last hit minions, dont spam AOE on them. This saves them for your ADC when they get back. If your tower is already shooting at them, go ahead and destroy all the minions because they are going to be lost anyway, you may as well take them all.
