Champion Select: Locking In

This is a consistently problematic issue for me, and many others in champion select. Despite the warning, the need to lock yourself in is ridiculous.

Why exactly is it considered a queue dodge if you don't lock in? Why can't the game lock you in automatically as it did before? If I am unsure of which champ I would like to pick, and make a decision last second, I have no time to lock myself in, resulting in a "dodge" and a queue cooldown. Really? This is the main reason that it takes so long to find a draft pick game that actually escapes champion select, because you are forced out!
